Isn't thay what beadlocks do, add size in every direction?

It was correct on my application.

You can clamp any bead! That is dope

For sure. You do win.

Is your truck on the ChiTown4X4 facebook page?

If it is it would be news to me. I would say it's unlikely though as I only have ever attended one event at his shop, and my rig didn't seem to fit in too well.

and my rig didn't seem to fit in too well.

I was confused/concerned about that too. I remember it being one of those pics of a bunch of trucks lined up in their parking lot. NBD. I guess you're famous though...

I used to run a club here in Chicago years ago, and I still do go to a fair amount of events and meet ups in the area. If I show up and am the only one without a light bar, I usually don't stay long. Unless it's Toys for Tots.

World's longest tailgate storage project is finally finished, and has exactly one single straight cut. Carpet is simply marine carpet used for trailer bunks, and it's wrapped on the bottom to prevent rattles.

Logged into my ever dormant ih8mud account to say I finally read through it all and love it. It was awesome wheeling with you at Badlands in November, excited to wheel with you some more in the future!

Can confirm that Joe's rig simply works. The cage is super tight and unique, the pictures don't do it justice.

Thanks man! Was definitely a good day of wheeling, looking forward to more trips.

80 is getting some tweaking this winter as I keep collecting parts for the next big round of upgrades, hopefully coming next winter. Will update as things progress.

Inspired by @nukegoat, I needed a storage platform for the rear. But I also wanted it to be what held the spare tire down, eliminating the ratchet strap, and allowing me to store things inside the rim so it needed to be hinged. I also wanted it to be easily removable in case something large needed to be hauled. I'm also cheap, and wanted to build it with what I had laying around the garage.

Ended up building the hinges out of 1.5" tube welded to the cage, sleeved with 1.75"x.120 DOM, with two 1.5" tube stubs welded to the 1.75" tube. The frame is all 1.75"x.120 wall DOM, which slips over the two stubs welded to the "hinge". 1/8" strap is welded across the frame, which is what the plywood is bolted down to. Still have to finish the latches, using destaco style like on a tire carrier, and poly the plywood. May even add struts to it in the future to hold it open.

Looks good!
Thanks! Won't lie though, making it removable was the biggest PITA of the whole project. Well, that and making out of nothing but scrap.

Yeah. I just modded mine to make it removable. But its nice not having to strap down the tire

Latched, stained, poly'd. Decided to just sick an aluminum prop rod on it for now. Struts may still come.

Lol i too make use of the spare wheel cavity for tarps and stuff. Enjoy not having a dumb swingout

I like that it's forced me to re evaluate the rest of what I carry and pack more efficiently. I trimmed almost 20 lbs out of my tool bags this weekend, and could realistically go more. But it's always handy to have spare wrenches to weld on. Actually found this meme recently, this was a trail repair I did for a guy in a rzr to get him back to camp. Last I heard he wheeled all weekend on it.

Hey, @joez you met my wife a year or two ago passing through Denver. Probably don't recognize these anymore, but thanks! I don't know how you midwestern guys deal with the rust.

Compared to what we are used to, those werent even bad! Glad you are putting them to good use.

Few updates. Added a @yodaTEQ antenna mount to hopefully solve my flailing antenna syndrome. Picked up a huddexpo GIS DIY skid/crossmember from @LC4LIFE, cut it up a bit and glued it together. It really is a nice piece for the price. We will see how well it holds up to my abuse. Turns out I hurt a sidewall on one of my Nitto's, and since I wanted to keep my spare rim looking pretty I broke my beadlocks down and swapped my spare onto the existing rim, and my hurt tire onto my new wheel. Brennan Metcalf from Brennans Garage made up some new dust caps for my RCV flanges since the RCV ones don't fit on his 3d printer and a sweet snatch ring to keep shedding pounds off of this thing.

Rear locker actuator finally bit the dust, it was tough to order a new one at the price they go for. But, if it lasts me 25 more years and 275k miles I really can't complain. Changed up the paint scheme with my daughter, now bumpers and sliders are sand. Still not sure if I like it. New maxpow struts for the lift gate and hatch, don't know why I didn't do it sooner. Nice to not have them fall on my head. Mounted my spare driveshaft to my cage, and significantly trimmed down my tools i am carrying. My spare tire hold down added a little over 45 pounds, I need to trim that from somewhere. 20 came out of my tool bags, 20 from my power tank. Almost there.

Last things for this wheeling season are just some reinforcements for my sliders, as I bent one last year pretty good. AC needs fixed and recharged, and a new exhaust. At that point it will be time to hit the trail, or mall.
