Anyone on here have any experience with a Jet Boil? I am not looking to use this as my primary stove, I just need a cook source to boil water in my SHTF bag and also use a few times backpacking. I like the fact that everything is self contained and fits in a water bottle pouch on my pack. They are expensive, and I didn't want to spend the money if they don't work as advertised. Any suggestions?

Note: For car camping I have a pot set and dual fuel stove.

More than worth what you pay. I love mine. Mine boils in less than two minutes. I've used it for cooking food too. Works great!

I've had mine for 2 years and its been great. 20 degree water boils in about two and a half minutes. 4 days on the AT in snow and it worked great. I put my Whisperlite on the shelf and haven't used it since . A+ on the Jetboil.

Thanks, that makes me feel better. Any experience using the pot ring and trying to fry on it? That wouldn't be my primary use for it, just nice to know it's full "realistic" capability.

No I haven't fried on it just boiled some water. We were in heavy wind, rain, and snow and it did great. From my experience with it I would say the frying pan would work great. I leave it in the back of my truck 24-7 with a couple mountain house meals and 2 bottles of water.

I have a gen1 model with standard cup and the flux ring capacitor with the saucepan. Works great in most conditions. It really excels at boiling water and does well enough with the saucepan option, if its going to be your EOTWAWKI kit. I take my MSR dual fuel stove when I'm backpacking in cold weather though.

"EOTWAWKI kit." dooo wahhhhttt???

I wouldn't call it my EOTWAWKI, that's what my house is. This is just a 72 hour get home, shelter, etc. bag. All it has to do is boil water for cooking the contents of my 3 day back. Ramen noodles, hot cocoa, etc. However, if I am going to spend $75 on a stove I would like to get some use out of it backpacking in warm weather. Sounds like it will do just the trick. I like the new MSR International stove and may get one of those down the road.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I ain't taking the bait today JP.;)

I actually use all of my supplies, I just like to have them together and available if I need them in a hurry. Extra jackets, gloves, tools, water, snacks, flashlights, knives. All things I use on any giving day. Safely stored in a bag in my truck. I am also accident prone, so I carry a little more first aid supplies than the average joe. Hell, I should probably go take a first responders course just so I can take care of myself let alone others.

What the hell am I talking about, looks like I did take the bait. Paranoid is carrying 4 guns and 500 rounds of ammo because you are worried about bears and stealing juice boxes.

Nah your s*** is too old for me....and it breaks down all the time....I just call to see how small a jar Mary Ellen has your nuts in since you can't ever seem to come see your friends unless your wife has a girls weekend and you can sneak away

Just asked for the screw on canister for my whisper light and they made some comment about 'old school.'. What!? It goes w my North Face mountain parka and Sundowners.

Hey don't feel bad I have a XGK pre shaker series. I've never wanted to know how fast it can boil or that it burns everything to a crisp. All I know is that it works ever time out of the bag.

I would love to have an MSR Jet Engine, er I mean XGK. However it is a bit more expensive, plus having to pack the separate fuel bottle and a mug to boil water in makes it heavier and bulkier than the Jetboil.

Okay wasn't sure what a jetboil was so I had to go look it up. I had a Gaz burner and lantern. It was great that it was light and compact. But it sucked having the compressed fuel bottles. Would always have to carry two on a trip or leave the half empties at home. It was expensive and when your out of gas that's it. I liked the ability to refuel at any gas station or at home.

Your right on the jet engine. It's really really loud. All my friends would get a good laugh when I cranked it up. Bad part about it was it was either full blast or off.

I do like the multi-fuel capability. Do you think it is worth it to have the XGR that can use diesel as well as unleaded, kerosene, and white fuel? Or do you think some of the other models that are lighter, and have some simmer functionality are just as good without the diesel fuel option?
