Update

After two weeks and many phone calls, the vendor I have been working with on this project, called yesterday to let me know that they were no longer interested in producing the line-sets. I was not given a reason why, I can only speculate that it could be the original person I was working with (that is no longer employed there) gave me an unacceptable quote, or the guy replacing him couldn't source the materials. No way to know, not that it really makes a difference. So we're back to square one. I have been checking with other companies to see if someone else can do what we need, and as soon as I receive the lines back, I will check on some other ideas I have. I apologize for what has transpired, I thought it was a done deal. I will update you with my findings as I get more information.

Sorry about this turn of events,
Rex

Thanks for the update Rex... We appreaciate the hope of a solution :-)

Rex, I know this has been a ton of leg work, thanks for all the effort. This is an elegant solution to a problem most of have and I hope it works out. Thanks for your persistence.

Well, that is a bit of a setback. Hopefully you can find a company willing to step-up and make some money as there is without a doubt a decent amount of interest within the Mud community.

Rex,

Thanks for taking on this challenge! Looking forward to your persistence paying off. BTW the thanks again for all of your help last summer my AC system is running flawlessly!!!

Here is a picture of my 1993 LC, it does NOT have the AC drier in front of the battery. :crybaby: Its behind the bumper.

Would it be reasonable to make the relocation kit out of a suitable flexible AC hose with the appropriate connectors on each end?

It could be done with flexible hose, but the larger diameter and inability to make a tight radius bend, don't make it the first choice.

I have received the lines back from the (non) fabricator. I've done some measuring and consulted with Beno, and I'm ordering in a couple fittings that might make it possible to use the early lines and weld later fittings onto the condenser and fender connections. Until I receive the fittings I won't know for sure that this will work. If it does, then we are trusting that Toyota would be able to supply enough of the early lines to satisfy demand. This would also necessitate using the early '91-'93 drier (not a big deal).

More info asap.

man I hope this gets figured out soon. I am in the middle of building my front bumper and I have decisions to make

thanks

Rex, any updates? Summer is approaching.

Yes I do have an update. The female fitting I ordered won't work, but the block fitting is perfect. So thanks to Steve and Kevin, I have made a prototype set. For the condenser end, I cut the original fitting off the R12 line and brazed the R134 end on. For the junction fitting on the inner fender, I cut the ends off both the R12 and R134 lines and brazed the R134 fitting onto the R12 line. I mocked them up on my 80 but didn't actually install them, so we're going to do an install on another rig to verify fit with the drier.

So to summarize, assuming this fits appropriately, the kit will be using the early R12 lines (3 pieces) and putting new ends on both the condenser and fender connections. This set-up will require the early '91-'92 drier. Denso #478-0107 which is $22.42 or an aftermarket version runs $13.65. I have contacted CDAN about the pricing and availability of the early R12 lines. Once I know this will work, I'll figure out pricing on the block fitting and the welds. Doing this conversion will require that you cut-off and send me your R134 fenderwell fitting. Do NOT do this yet!

Just heard from CDAN, there are only enough parts in the US to make up two of these. We may be back to square one...

Here's a couple pic's of the prototype.

What's the composition and R12 tube size? I'm tempted to try bending some.

Don't forget 5/16" is only 0.003" larger than 8mm
