I ordered a few LED light options to test out. Two of these use sticky tape to mount, which I'm a bit concerned about the longevity of the tape. I would prefer a mechanical fastener instead. As mentioned in previous posts I have sourced a stock light plug so the LED lights will be plug & play.

Other options I'm looking at:

This

This

This

These can be used for illumination, but also have cool automotive indicator lenses for other purposes

This

This

Or these metal single-LED bezels that come from the guitar pedal building world

Some of these are "indicators", meaning meant to be installed in machinery for an indicator light. But they'd be damn near flush mount. I would have to order a bunch and determine which would be bright enough. They are all panel-mount and avoid using tape. VHB is strong stuff, but if I'm putting lights in mine I'm gonna do it right. I'll still use the stock light (with type-74 LED wedge blub), but repin the stock harness connector to feed several lights.

I considered using these types of lights, I'm trying to make this as simple as possible for the end user.

Here's my thought process.......If I were to supply one of these lights with the stock plug already attached with the mounting hole drilled into the glove box then the end user wouldn't be able to pass the plug through the small hole. I would have to install the light here then attach the stock plug to the wire. In that case the only location I could install these types of lights is at the back of the glove box. Otherwise if a placed them at the top, bottom or sides, it wouldn't slide into the opening because the back where the wire comes out will interfere with the opening. Maybe having the lights at the back isn't an issue with some, but they may get blocked due to the contents of the glove box.

I like the idea and that should provide plenty of light. I especially like the idea of the LED bulb and that would work well for those that don't want a different LED light.

My ideal is getting two more original bulb holders for three total - one in the stock location and two on the top, all pinned into the stock harness connector. The original bulb holders are plastic and could be easily removed/installed.

On the other hand a lot of those flush mount indicator light bezels can be had with spade connectors on the back rather than an installed pigtail...

I'm kind of going back and forth on this and will definitely be doing a DIY solution.

(sorry I haven't measured my opening yet - got slammed at work.)

My plan was going to be just to put a strip of led strip and stick it to the top of the glove box with mine. I use the stock hole for running wires for my headunit to play hdmi video and stuff through there.

Received my glove box insert today and got it installed in about 10 minutes. Damn, this thing is high quality. The finish is superb. I’m going to toss some toolbox liner in here and then add more lighting down the road. Updates eventually.

@HemiAlex
@Spike Strip

I’ll take 2. One for a 60, one for a 62 that I’m willing to cut up to fit the ecu and send back to you for fitting.

Got mine in too. I need to find some rubber or something to put down in it before I toss it in the truck. Tool box mat is a good idea too

@CruiserTrash i ordered a roll of this adhesive backed neoprene I’m going to try and use to line the bottom and the sides to prevent my junk from rattling around. Also ordered 12v led strips to stick on the top for a light

NATGAI Sponge Neoprene with Adhesive Foam Rubber Sheet 1/8” Thick X 12” Wide X 54” Long, Cut to Multiple Dimensions and Lengths - DIY, Gaskets, Cosplay, Costume, Crafts https://a.co/d/cY7GqbX

This would also be nice in the bottom of the center console (lidded and front part) I bet.

I have had good results with the Oznium products..

I'd PM @mr2m1 directly on it.

Also, I want to see a photo of his Mk1 MR2 some time. Color me interested.

Okay for those following along I'm ready to start making these glove boxes for a small production run.

Price will be $60 plus shipping. Note, this isn't a pre-order where I ask for money now then make the parts. I would prefer to make the parts based on your glove box opening width, have them ready to ship to you then get your zip code, and at that point we can arrange payment.

For those interested please send me a message with your glove box opening width and I'll respond back to you with a timeline.
Good to hear about this project progressing with improved "custom" fitment options. I have a glove box from other vendor purchased a few years (?) back and then powdercoated but the fit was off and the lines when closing were not ideal. It went back into parts box (sigh).

And here i thought i was the only one taken for a foo....
Glad to see this glovebox working out with good results..!!!
