If you're getting 300-400C up hills then your probe isn't working. It's either in a cold spot or there is something badly wrong. Even stock diesels get around 600C at full load.

I'll admit my probe is really only monitoring one cylinder(#6). It was more convenient for drilling than the middle.

As for Temps I was referring to cruising and maintaining hills. Not full load. It can reach 600 but because of my probe location I try to stay under that.

If I actually maintain full load in 5th, it's usually speed scaring me before EGTS!

I don't think these trucks should be capable of 100mph. I'll never know it's true top speed.

I run 750C sustained for minutes on end and my engine has yet to give a damn. I even found out I'm much faster uphill than a 1HD-FT powered 80. Even non intercooled I'm not heat-soaking. Which suggests it's an intake and/or airflow issue for Mike. His turbo has plenty of spare capacity.

How about a bigger exhaust while you're under there Mike?

I think you are right Dougal,

with the 80 suspension I am limited to my current exhaust size due to routing clearance issues, but I do have a pretty big muffler installed right now to make things quite :) that should probably get cut out...

Muffler?! On a turbo diesel? Get the crap outta there!

My local exhaust guy recommended a glass pack backwards. I like it, did quiet it down some.

Turbos make good enough mufflers.

I know it doesn't do much, but after driving loud cars for years I wanted something not loud, I find that loud exhaust notes resonate the 60 sheet metal very effectively...

BUT FINE I will remove it, and I probably won't regret it.

Ive had a great experience with the aero turbine straight through in my BJ62. I found it to be surprisingly pleasant. Not loud at all. I could really only hear it if I opened up the window. I dont really know how that blasted thing works inside, but ill be putting one on my 80 with the isuzu when I do the exhaust.

Upping to the 7cm and just trying out that sorty downpipe I leant you will give you a pretty definate answer on which way to go.

Hey Greg!

I know... I am trying to sell the house right now so I'm hesitant to get that far into a project.

On a plus side I got my slee caster plates in last night, holy cow it makes such a huge difference having positive caster!

Really! What a crock.

I had no muffler on a 3" system on a hdj80, it was embarrassing to drive, particularly leaving for work at 5AM in a quiet neighbourhood. Sounded like a school bus with a busted manifold.

I fitted the largest full flow, straight through muffler I could. It shut it up nicely with no reduction in performance. Still had a nice throaty note without sounding like a schoolboy's wet dream.

I went with two mufflers on my work-car. A resonator (this is probably what you guys call a glass pack) in the middle about a metre from the engine and a large chamber muffler on the back.

I'm very happy with it. You never hear the exhaust while driving, it's got a slight burble at idle and I picked up another psi of boost pressure over the smaller exhaust I was running earlier.

If you go with no muffler, then you lose all sound attenuation when the wastegate opens. It sounds bloody awful. You'll also get droning at highway speeds. I'd never recommend that.

Mike, how many pinch points have you got in your exhaust path? A 3" tube ovalised to fit through a 2" gap is far far better than a 2" tube.

100mph makes me laugh. Mike will have enough power to do about 125. 100mph is like stock 1HD-T territory.

This weekend I did a bunch of wiring, preparing for a pretty big trip coming in Nov 1... 6 months at least, maybe 1 year. We'll see where we get to... Lots of work to get done in the next 2 months...

I bought an mV50 compressor, hoping it would be fast enough to air up my 35's. It would air them up, but it took forever.... looked around on the internet and realized they are pretty much the same as the cheap compressors, so I picked up a second one for $40, disassembled both compressors and mounted them both in my rear fender in parallel. I am very pleased with the performance. I ported the MV50, but the cheapo was built slightly differently and didn't require porting.

Re mounted my power steering reservoir on the fender. In it's prior location it was getting the piss shaken out of it...

I like the compressor mount. I've thought of that area but had not thought of the bracket. Looks good.

thank you, i sat in the back of the truck with both compressors in pieces for a while until I thought of a way to make them work. I had the aluminum pieces sitting around already and it all just worked out!

Looks like there is adequate room for my 40A MMPT solar controller, blue sea add a battery kit and blue sea fuse panel in the other quarter panel.

I ran a my main power from the front to the back and in through the pass-through for the filler neck as well.

You are welcome to come look at it since your in VAN :) Could even take you for a ride! It's got just over 9,000km on it now.

But we are leaving in it for a year Nov 1... South america maybe? so the clock is ticking! Spending all my free time getting it ready...

There is this though:

WOW! That thing sounds like it eats landcruisers.

what kind of isuzu is that? I gotta get one.

No plans to come to van until feb. We are off to panama for 2 months. Maybe you'll be that far already?

Had to watch it again. You must of turned up the fuel a wee bit eh?
