Hi guys,

Need some real time help
Balls deep in a front axle rebuild on my 60( no one responded on 60 thread hope it’s okay I’m posting here!)

Got all the components needed, rebuild kit etc. I noticed I was missing an extra spindle bushing. But it appears I’m missing another bushing as well INSIDE the diff, beyond the axle deal (see photo) I’m wondering what this one is and how good of shape it appears to be in?

Also there’s some gouges on the surface outside the axle seal (see same ohotk) , definetly catches my finder nail pretty good. Is this fixable?

Stuck at this step, was gunna reinstall but here we are…. :/

Would sticking the new bird and testing for play along this bushing suffice or are the dents in the visual inspection enough to tell?

I don't see a problem. Pull the inner axle seal, clean it up and install a new seal. Polish the outer ball. The smoother the better. Do you have a knuckle rebuild kit and centering gauge?

Yes I do.

I was setting the drag link for the arm, it was only 2ft pounds. Removing shims didn’t raise it. What do I do? Loose/ bad knuckle bearing?

Phot for reference of which drag link measurement it was

Nothing touches the inside of the ball unless the birfield breaks. They usually leave gouges. Your scratches are ok. You should be replacing the bearings. Did you buy a rebuild kit? It has everything you need.

Did not come with knuckle bearings . I have aftermarket wheel bearings

Get some HD axle seal from marlin crawler or trailgear , it will forgive if the knuckle is not perfectly centered
Already installed ;)

I'd get trunion bearings. The one on the bottom gets hammered by the road surfaces, potholes and such.

Hi guys, finally had the chance to do the other side. Passenger side is buttoned up.

Noticed my spindle had some blueing on the metal, the other side didn’t have this. It’s smooth where the discoloration is. there’s also a little lip on there halfway down my finger nail catches a little bit on. (See photo)

Is this spindle reusable?

Thanks all,
