I looked at the new 200 today.

Wow...it is rough over here in the 200 section! dt255, here is a link to my slider build project per your request. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=176263&highlight=slider They worked out very well last week. I scratched them all up and had no body damage in that region. I am going back home to the 100 section now...enjoy your new 200!

I say it looks just as close to the Highlander as the 100, but come-on the '96-'03 4runners look like the 80 series and I get people asking about my 4runner all the time. I don't care it's still a Land Cruiser.

And to most, the FJ40 looks like a HEEP...

When I had my FJ60, a lot of people wanted to know about my (gasp) Jeep Wagoneer! WTF?

Don't forget to look at it from this angle:

Why oh why did they make the rear rake and third row window so much like that POS Highlander. They ruined the classic greenhouse look of the 60, 80 and 100 in the 200. Just a shame. Maybe its the white color, but I have to look 2 or 3 times when I see the side profiel to discern which is which.

evrybody is doing the back like that it think is has to do with crash test results which are new for suv the pillars are very thick for everyones

in english- you think the D pillars are thick to comply with crash testing standards

That might be the case but I've seen much better execution of disguising the thickness of pillars on other suv's. It's really not an excuse and more likely, looking at their other models, a stylistic choice by Toyota.

That is one thing I had to get used to when I got the 80, the pillars are so thin it scared me! Structural integrity has certainly improved with every new bodystyle I think.

Saw my first 200 today; I was underwelmed.

Yes, the interior was nice, the engine and brakes were bigger, etc, etc, etc. And, it did look more "modern", more of an up-to-date style, but it also left me cold; no spirit, no personality, no character, no excitement; just a big white plain vanilla egg; just blah.

The instrument panel was very difficult to see clearly; ie: the view of the gauges
are obstructed by the smallish steering wheel, and the very odd deep-dish tunnels over the speedo and tach; very bad ergonomic design IMO.

Sorry guys, I have driven LC's for almost three decades, and this one really leaves me cold.

Will I buy one? Not for a long time, if at all; high price, low mpg, lack of "testosterone"(mall cruiser look), etc, etc.

Maybe in 5+ years when the price has dropped on a new one to half what it is today.

But on the other hand, if gasoline prices continue to climb, I'm hoping that they will have an all-electric SUV by then.

Or, wait for the four-door V8-powered, improved body FJ-Cruiser.

I don't know if the older LC's had a larger then normal steering wheels, but this one is just normal sized.

I must disagree with you on the instruments being hard to see.

Every thing is clear as day and placed together very well. I don't know if you saw a different version or something but I have NEVER had any issues with the instrument panel!

hey dtt how many miles have you put on her so far??? i just watched the speed tv thing on the cuiser did not show much but the looks are begginning to grow on me i actually like the lc more then the lx but i am still waiting for the lx to show up at the dealerships. Anyway the reason i'm asking about the milage is that i had all sorts of trouble in my new 06 lx in the 1st 1000 miles but now she has been trouble free (32k now) build defects would begin to show with daily usage. mine had annoying problems mirrow would not adjust sun roof rattle etc big problem was a leaky tail gate

Why do you care what it looks like ? It is a Land Cruiser and that's all that matters... isn't it ?

Oh, sorry to spoil all of your "past" LC experiences with this new one..

;)

I have 1296 miles on it as of this morning :grinpimp:

I THINK I have an issuing starting, but I am really not sure.

When at a dead stop, if I start going, within the first few seconds I hear a KNOCK when the gears engage.

It is not when going from 1st to 2nd it is before it goes to second.

It is about 1/3 of the time.

Anyone else experiance any of this on their LC's?

Otherwise all is GREAT!

heard it all before

when they

went from leaves to coils,

carby to efi,

ifs instead of live axle,

every time a new model comes out......

Yes, but--- my concerns were not with anything mechanical, it is
the styling (and the price).
It does look like a carbon copy mommy mobile, no cajones.

I agree, underneath that plain vanilla shell is (most likely) a well built rugged vehicle. However, I did notice that the sheet metal seemed to be ever so slightly thinner, to my eye; Anyone have the specs yet?

Is there any difference between the 2006 and the 2007?

If I had a family and money, I'd probably get a new one, since every year the comfort and safety features increase, but right now, I'm content with my 80. Even though I want to get rid of it and get a 55. But. If I had money right now, I'd probably go with the '07. I dunno what it is, but they look sleek. And sexy.
