I finally get the shop I have wanted for too long (4 Viewers)

Looks good! So what brand lift did you go with (apologies if you said and I forgot)? Also, I assume you are installing a lot more of those LED fixtures? I'm planning on replacing the fluorescents with 16 ~12,000 lumen linear LEDs in my 40 x 40. I think 12 15,000 would work but I wanted to ensure I minimized shadowing. My ceilings are a little higher so that helps.

One last question, you said 208v earlier. So I assume you were able to pull 3 phase power to the building? Very cool as that puts a lot of surplus industrial equipment into play, typically at very attractive prices. Not an option for me.

Hope you don't/didn't get hit too hard by this latest storm. My wife is still in Auburn and they were getting a few flurries yesterday. I don't think anything accumulated though.

@WarDamnEagle my lift is a Challenger VLE10. It is 208v but not 3phase. That is very expensive and I don’t know if it is available in my area.

I have two more fixtures hanging but not wired to a switch yet. I have 5, in total, fixtures that are 26k lumen each high bay lights from Home Depot. I will wire them soon. Now that the lift is
in and not being stored at someone’s shop, I can freely move at my own pace and direction. My shop walls are 12’ with an open truss system. I will get you a measurement on the fixture height over the floor.

We received about 2” of snow yesterday morning before it started raining. Then it was snow and rain, off and on, for the rest of the day. It froze overnight so traveling today will be interesting.

When will you return stateside?

208v but not 3 phase? Learn something new every day. I'm headed back for a wedding in early February. Will stay around 3 weeks and then wife and I will return together to Riyadh. Still targeting May for permanent return.

My shop walls are around 16' and I think my lights will hang around that height given the headroom available. I modeled all sorts of lighting configurations before settling in on the fixtures, quantity and spacing. I was shooting for 100 lumens (or more) at 30" above the floor. The fixtures are dimmable and I plan on wiring them as such. I'll have to take a look at the Challenger. I have/had decided on a Rotary SPOA10 but haven't pulled the trigger on anything yet.

Depending on location, I've seen voltage vary quite a bit. Nominally it's 120/240, but I've seen anywhere from about 110/220 to 126/252. Having it as low as 208 seems exceptionally low. As it drops, it can really play havoc with things.

I'd put a meter on things to see what you actually have.

@PAToyota the 208 I stated was the requirement for the lift. I’m actually measuring 248 at the outlet. But thanks for the heads up!

OK that makes more sense. I read your earlier post as stating you had 208v power which is always either 3 phase or 2 phase derived by using 2 legs of 3 phase power. I couldn't figure out how you had 2 phase, 208v without starting with 3 phase power; not that I'm well versed in this area by any means.

A friend brought me his kabota tractor to use for a little while, so I started moving some of the larger items out of the garage and into the shop. I also started moving the green shed onto the slab behind the shop. It was going great until it wasn’t! The only left to right cross member, gave up with all of the pushing and pulling. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Oh well, time to fall back and regroup.

If you're not already, consider plumbing an exhaust for your blasting cabinet vacuum out through the wall. Better than direct exhaust into shop and more free flowing than bag that TIP offers.

That's great advice. I've also heard that piping your compressor exhaust outside lowers the Decibels considerably.

Thanks! I already have the exhaust vent on the shelf waiting for the appropriate time to install it.

The compressor I purchased has a silencing system on the exhaust already. It is supposed to run about 75db.

Yesterday I finally completed a two day process of moving the green shed onto the slab behind the shop. It was a bigger challenge this time. But my neighbor and I persevered.

The inaugural lift happened today. Roma needed to change the oil and rotate tires on his 100, so invited him over to use the lift.

It’s been a busy week. Below are a before and some after pictures. The main goal was to clear out the garage so 👸🏻can park in the garage for the first time in her life. BTW I had the week off thanks to Corona 🤷🏻‍♂️
