Thanks for the added info on the radiator. How much "Too Tall" is the 80's radiator? I guess I just need to put the hood on and see.

It looks like about 1" too tall? Would the hood clearance issue be solved by raising the body 1 1/2" or maybe even as much a 2"? Easy to do where I'm fabricating new frame brackets anyway. The downside to this would be how much of the 80's frame would be exposed under the already high sitting appearance of a 79 series bed. Which looks even higher on an 80's frame. The added clearance would make tucking the cats up higher easier, more room for an over the frame exhaust and more room for sliders.

This "maybe" would allow me to keep a radiator that I know is designed to cool the 1FZ. Raising the body would move any mechanical fan lower from where it should be, which would not be an issue if I did run the Mark VIII electric fan. Just thinking of options. If a new radiator does need to be made mine will have to account for the transmission cooling lines that run into and out of it as I am keeping the stock 80 series engine and auto transmission. I am not opposed to a custom radiator, I just want one that will cool the 1FZ and have the transmission cooler built in.

In another 7 cab on the 8 chassis build ,the owner said using the oem 80 mounts to the back body mounts of the 7 cab allready gives it a couple of inch body lift as such .
But if it's full custom then whats a extra 1.5"

Jump on 4wdmonthly forum , and that 70-80 project (I've sent the link before) has something about how he made the/a rad fit

A body lift may be a good option. Another plus to going this route is that I would then have plenty of room to fabricate some sort of mount off the frame so that I can use the stock 80's fuel tank in the original position. Would save having to have a custom tank built for the rear area. And the rear area could be used for a rear mounted winch. Nice as I have a spare 8000 pound electric winch in the garage not being used.

I'll work on putting the rest of the front clip and hood on before I make a final decision on the new frame mounts. And see just how much higher I have to go to clear the radiator.

I think it was about an inch that it misses by. Stick the other fender and front clip on. I'd like to see what how it looks with the 80 series arb bumper. Still tryin to decide what route i'm going with the front bumper.

hey clint could you send that link again...I can't find where you originally put it.

Will do

The MarkVIII fan is 21 5/8 wide, 18 1/2 high, and 4 3/4 thick when trimed to thinest size, and still allow room for blades to clear the radiator. I should have plenty of room with it trimmed to the thinest depth.

part # is F3LY 8C607A

93-96 use p/n F3LY 8C607A
The 93-96 spin 1100 rpms on low and 1850 on highspeed.

97's use p/n F7LZ 8C607
98's use p/n F8LZ 8C607
The 97-98 spin 1800 on low and 2225 on high.

They all look the same, all come with a shroud. The 93-96 spin slower according to Ford Motorsport Tech line.

and remind me tonight...
okay?

I was able to get the other fender on today as well as the hood and check the clearance on the radiator. The radiator fill neck does hit, but not by much. I'm thinking a 1" body lift will give me enough clearance, but will go with 1.5" to account for any body/frame flex.

Still not sure on what I'm going to do for a fuel tank. The OEM tank rotated 180 degrees looks like it might just work.

The skinny 9.00x16 STA's tuck in under the front fenders nicely.

And what an 80 series ARB looks like on an 80 series frame with the 79 body on top of it.

No wide tires. I like tall and skinny.

Looking good,

The 80 tank looks great from the top view ,
how is the tailshaft clearance with the tank
