Safe to say, you got your money's worth.

Man I got taken, I paid $2,500 in 1985

LOL the bezel train is never late! I think I had to wait for the internet to be invented to know whether it was on wrong
FJ40'rs going to bezel you all the time ... sort of like a Three Stooges skit

Mine was $750 with spun crank bearings in 1985. I had $1650 into it by the time I got it on the road, rebuilt wheel cylinders and replacement TR ends, all in.

I forgot to mention, on top of the outrageous price, I also poured money into the essentials like steering stabilizers with brightly colored boots, white wagon wheel rims and tinted sun visors. If it was "bolt on" it was for me! Thank God I grew up. Now it's classic elegance.

I paid $1,700 back in 1974 for my 68. Paid $1650 to keep it in a divorce in the mid 1980s. Can't remember the exact date, whole process dragged a few years. Two figures added together made this the second most I've ever paid for an FJ40. Cheapest for a complete 40 with a title would be my 73 FST I paid $1K in 1974. Plus side besides all the FSt parts is had a 72 hard top and doors. Also have a four speed, four speed bellhousing and spare engine in the back. Down side it a rust bucket.

What's the story with the gas fill? That style ended 9/73. Tail lights and fuel tank cover started 9/73.
