I think the biggest advantage, comparing the two, is that the Tremec is new. Best you are going to do with an NV4500 is all new internals and it still may make noise in 5th gear if it is a Chevy variant. I have a NV4500 in an 02 Dodge pickup that is quiet in 5th. Personally, I think it is a great option for those looking for a manual in a swap project. If this Tremec lives up to the reputation of its brethren, it should be a good match with the 6.0L.

I like the NV4500 as well, this truck is my favorite swap so far. That peppy 6.0L comes to life rowing through the gears. I like it better than the Toyota 5 speed I did some work on. This truck is a hot rod for sure. It gets up and runs. I am hoping for similar results from the Tremec.

Interesting take given you mated it to a 6.0L, since that's what I've been eyeballing should I end up going the Vortec route (which I'd do if I couldn't source a 12HT for a realistic overall price). It would definitely be nice to have a NEW transmission behind an engine that's had a lot of effort put into swapping in.

Thinking about a new shop emblem...................... :)

The shifter that came with the trans in Sugar is more in line of a car style and it hit the dash in N. The owner really liked the simple stalk of the NV4500 shifter so I adapted it to fit the Tremec 4050. This shifter (trans side not stalk) is much tighter than the NV4500. More like a precision car style shifter than an old pickup trans. It feels a bit odd to me as I am accustomed to driving the NV4500 I have in my Dodge pickup. Runs out great and no noise in 5th!

We are heavy into body and paint mode around here. Crate motors are still not available and the trucks are starting to stack up waiting. We have 5 trucks to paint so we are knocking out at least some of them while waiting for motors to arrive.

This is my wife's 80. Two color metallic with third color stripes. 4 coats of clear. It'll sit for a while before it is sanded cut and buffed.

That is what I've heard

Leon is up on the body and paint parade. Glass is out, started pulling dents. Lots of dents covered with filler. Found some odd rust under the primer on the hood. It is even pitted in spots.

Had to change directions on two projects here due to LS3 wait times.
That tr4050 is sweet. I want one

I'd be seriously considering one if I end up going the Vortec route in the future.

I'll bet that beast makes the work a helluva lot easier!

Can you give a bit of detail on how you prepare the bottom of the body for the lizard skin? Do you strip off the existing undercoating? With a wire wheel?

I need to do this for the first time so any tips you have would be greatly appreciated.

I think I found my cable shifters for our 80. Big thanks to Mel Kluhsman of Kluhsman Racing Products for his patience on the phone!
Spring loaded handles allow you to set stops on the end. They handle dirt track racing, think we're good. They will mount as high as I can get them and still have full view of the stereo/Nav screen. Everything below that horizontal bar above the ashtray is going.

What is the holdup on crate engines? crankshafts still?
I was speaking with folks at GM today on an unrelated matter and asked about when C&C would be available and the answer was no target date currently. It is a crankshaft issue and they are now looking for a substitute supplier is what I was told.

This will be a fun one to follow along with.....

Hope you're not in a hurry.

He's a spoiled hound for sure. Was sound asleep nested in my chair. Pi is starting to show some signs of being a Bay dog. He makes a habit of pushing Eddie the horse into a box corner and has moved another horse around the barn and through a gate to another paddock, right where he belonged. Eddie plays with him as well, a good excuse to show off his lightning speed, Eddie's that is. He may end up earning his keep working for his Mom moving horses. Pi has been errr, lets say a hand full. He knows the bad dog handbook front to back and over again. I think that is why God makes puppies cute :)
