I work part time at gander mountain behind the firearms counter. I feel ya buddy.

Welcome aboard Bubba!!
Too bad we don't have Gander Mountain here in WA because I miss it so bad, we had one in NC and it was one of my favorite places to shop!
Be sure to post plenty of pics of your TLC.

Welcome to the madness ! Congrats !

Your rig seems to be a little rough on the edges, but what i wanted to ask you;

Why is your hopeful eventual idea and plan for it ?

Why do you say they are a mental illness sir?

Because they are so fun that they are addictive, and can consume all your time and resources if you let them! With luck, your spouse and family will see the fun in it and share it with you.

Twin turbo/compound turbo cummins 4b
Manual Trans
twin stick xfer
a linked front and rear end
full cage but still keeping that factory cruiser style with modern tech.
Tuffy overhead for a cb or ham or fire radio
tuffy center box for the radio with a full system

Still deciding on lots of other things

That is all?..............:flipoff2: Welcome to the asylum....be sure to post pictures along with way. And with that plan, a few days into it, you will understand the "illness". :hillbilly:

Before you buy a Tuffy overhead console, you should look at the console @Bambi Girl built.

There's a finished picture in post 10 of THIS THREAD - you can see the console build in his build thread.

There's an abundance of good stuff in his build thread!!

What's the plan for the missing tub...and doors... and top... and windshield?

A lot of those parts were in the bed of the Tacoma pickup. I have 2 roofs. Anything I don't have I'm going to have to get. I'd like to get a steel body being as aluminum and fiberglass aren't as off road friendly.

I've found most of my parts through the MUD classifieds. If you're not already set up in PayPal, do it ASAP. Lots of parts come up and sell fast, so you've got to be ready to move quickly!

I have paypal. I'm hoping to be able to get my leatherworking skills up to par so I can do some custom work, maybe sell it here or at least get money to spend on the cruiser.

Really dumb question here but can your take the top off of a 40 if it's a hard top? Or is the conversion fairly easy to make it a soft top? Pros and cons?

Of course you can! I don't envy you, though, because yours isn't on, so you're going to have a challenge figuring out how it all goes back together. Mine was on when I bought it, so taking it apart was a matter of removing alot of bolts and disassembling the cap (roof), then the back (amby) doors, then the sides and doors. Some prefer taking off the entire roof assembly as one unit - alot depends on how you want (or can) store it. Do a search and you'll find lots of threads with pix showing how they go together and what weatherstrippint you'll need.
