Did you see the slee rear bumper in the for sale section?

My, my, my. The times, they are a-changin'...

Since all this mess started, I sold the 40 and bought a 62. Now the hundy is gonna chill for a while 'cause I just ordered OME heavys for the 62. Pics to come!

ps: maybe an unscheduled HAMOM? Any takers?

So, like I said, I ordered OME heavy suspension today. Last Friday I picked up some cruiser steelies:

Sat. on my way to the meeting in Royston, I'm dropping these off at Apex. Larry's going to blast them and powder them grey for me. These will have the TSLs on them while the chrome wheels on the 62 will have an everyday AT.

Interesting tidbit...while I was at 4WheelParts in Charlotte placing my order, the guy behind the counter says, "A guy brought some cruiser steel rims by here the other day for us to dispose of. You can have them if you want 'em." So I say, "SWEET!!!" and drive around back to the dumpster and notice the steels in the trash with some old-school white wall mud tires on them. I grab 'em up, toss 'em in the back and off I go. Here's the pic:

Yeah, they're not cruiser rims. They're GM. You can see the stamp...

So, here's the question: Will these fit a cruiser? 6 on 5.5? I don't know if that center hole will fit our hubs and I haven't measured backspace yet. Either way, if you want 'em, you can have 'em. I don't need three sets of rims.

More to come later. Hope to see you at Bob's on Sat.!

Dude, it's 16*. I'll do that later. (whine over)

I'm pretty sure cruiser rims are 6x5.5 I'm just concerned about fitment over the hub. Didn't know if anyone had ever tried GM rims. I'll let you know what I find out. Regardless, I'm not going to be using them. Just didn't want to see them dumped since they're in such good shape.

I will help out also. I put on mine a couple months ago (damn has it been that long already)... You got a place to work out of the weather?

Dave

They're yours Rick! Want me to bring them tomorrow?

BTW, any particular reason DigDug wears red shoes?

Thanks Dave. Technically I do have a place out of the weather but I don't know exactly when the parts will come in. I'll let you know.

Yes, please bring tomorrow. And everybody knows that RED makes you go faster :D

Of course! I totally forgot. Sorry.

From what I remember, the lug pattern is the same. Toyota typically has a larger hub than some of the newer GM wheels, but some of the older steel wheels had large enough hub bores for Toyotas... I was just looking up this info the other day.

I think I'm gonna lose it. Like a moron, I didn't test fit the steel rims on the 62 before I took them to powder. Now I'm being told that they won't fit because I disk brakes. If so, that's fine. I can find someone to buy them. But here's a question for you: How do the guys who do disk conversions on their 40s and 55s still run these rims with the hubcaps on them?

Disk brakes...

Folks are saying something about rivets on the back of the wheel not fitting with disks. Am I getting worked up over nothing?

I got in touch with the guy I bought them from. Between him and doing some reading, it turns out that there are two different versions of the 15" wheel. One that fits the drum brake axle and one that fits the disk brake. the drum brake rims are riveted on the back of the rim to hold the two pieces of steel together. the one's that fit the disk have been welded. The rivets are what everyone was telling me would interfere with the calipers. My rims don't have the rivets. They came off a disk brake 40. Should be no problem.

Damn, I've been twisted up about this all day. Now I can go to bed relaxed. Thanks for your patience.

Glad to know you got the correct rims. If you don't mind me asking what did you give for a set? I have been wanting to get some of the old 40 rims and hubcaps for my 62. I like the retro look they give. I think i remember reading somewhere that they can still be ordered from toyota but can not find a part number....

Dave,

I'm not sure if you can still order them new or not. Check here. IIRC you need a VIN# to search this site. You could call Rick Arflin at RHT too. He's always glad to help. Check my sig for his contact info. If he can get them, you'll get 25% off as a UC member. (Wait, anyone from MUD gets 25% off now.)

I like the old school look too. Now I'm starting to wonder if I wouldn't want the steels as DDs rather than the 62 rims.

I paid $75 for 5 and Larry at Apex Powder Coating in Greenville, SC is coating all 5 for $250.

Glad to hear those worked out for you. Post pics when you slap them on!
