How where you driving when it came on? Highway cruising or stopped at red light? Have you tryed to pull the codes?

Dave

Sorry for not getting back sooner...just woke up after a 73 hour work week that I won't get overtime for.

I don't have the tools to retreive codes. I did let it sit until this afternoon though. No light on the drive to Charlotte (back to work). What kind of money am I going to spend on a tool to read codes?

I think you could go to any auto parts store and have them read it for you for nothing... don't think the readers are very expensive either though... but I don't have one since the code on a hundy would likely lead me to the mechanic anyway, and the 40 sends no codes. :o

Some of you have mentioned being willing to help. Well, like I said, it'll be short notice because my schedule until the middle of summer is just ridiculous. That being said, the lift is going on this weekend come hell or high water. I'd certainly appreciate some help but only after these things are considered: 1) I would rather know you're at Tellico supporting our cause there or 2) If you're not going to Tellico, please make every effort to go to the monthly meeting at the raw fish place. Other than that, feel free to come by. If you're interested and able let me know and I'll get you some directions to the house (I'm in Fort Mill, SC). Either way, I know you're all supportive of a newbie doing his first lift.

Pick up tires today. I'll have them mounted to the steelies and balanced tomorrow. Here's a teaser so you know my intentions:

those do look good. Maybe some sushi and then beer at your place after to finish up the lift. If you are working on it saturday night, let me know. I have an appointment the middle of the day, but am free after that and might be able to swing down that way.

Thanks for the offer Dave but I'm a little farther away than you might think. Fort Mill is about 5mi. south of Charlotte on I-77. If you're able to go to the meeting, you should definately do that.

Go have raw fish, a cigar with Gundy, and after several of you have had one drink too many, give me a call and make fun of me for not knowing what I'm doing.

You know how it works...:hillbilly:

It not that hard to get the lift on. i did it by myself in about 8 hours. The hardest part i had was the spring pins. You will need a BFH, pry bar (about 4 foot) and 2 containers of map gas to burn out the old bushings. I found that heating them up till they where smoking really good and then spinning the bolt with a pipe wrench and prying with the bry bar worked really well, but hard to do with 1 person.

I got it buttoned up today after a trying process. Click on the link in my sig for the details.

Thanks for all the advice and support. UC is awsome!!

John, you're right. It is a little bouncey. But where this suspension bounces, the tired, 20yo springs would hurt. I'm loving it so far.

I'd like to thank my dad and Cirbo. Y'all made it happen!

The pics look good that you posted in the 60's section. now time to test out the new suspension.

Dave

Thanks Jim! You were a huge help!

Now I need to flush the radiator and get my stereo working properly and I'll be all set!

What a difference! Looks great!

Ok, so the stereo sounds great now with the addition of my cheapo sony speakers from wallie-world and I'm having the radiator flushed today. I'm thinking it may be time to replace it. I haven't noticed a leak but it must be going somewhere. I haven't noticed it in the oil either. All hoses seem to be in good shape and fit snug. Any ideas? Also, I found a thread in the FAQ on how to check engine codes. I'll do that asap but the light hasn't come on since I put the lift on about two weeks ago.

Well there you go... the code was the one for "Put a lift on this low-rider".

Cracked head.

How much water are you losing?

I topped off the resovoir yesterday after work and this morning at work it's almost empty. I started a thread in the 60 section "where does my coolant go?"

That's not as bad as cracked block is it? I think I have some oil leaking out the head or somewhere. I always have two drops in the driveway--one at the rear main (I'm sure that needs to be replaced) and one under the axle--could be coming from the head?

Doubt the block is cracked.

It is possible a freeze plug is leaking. I'm kind of leaning toward a blown head gasket.

Only way to tell is to take it to someone and have your cooling system pressure checked. They will most likely find your problem.

So how much water have you put in the cruiser say in the last week?
