When my folks bought our '72 brand new it came fitted with dealer-installed Selectros and no front hubcaps if I remember my dad's story correctly. That truck still has the same Selectros and the original sticker on the dash.

I was looking at my info and saw that in 1969 Toyota went with the other newer style caps. Looks like Moon Caps ended in 1968. I have original newer style front caps laying around my garage ( I think they are original ) that have the hole in them. So Chamba, that is interesting that your Dad did not get front caps when he bought the cruiser new. Seems like they would have been available back then. I do know they had factory holes in them in 1975. Anyway, It is really interesting that Living in the Past has info showing that some of the early MOON CAPS in the 1960's DID have holes in them. And I don't mean holes that the owner cut himself. So, my 1968 did have front hubs but not a cap. Sounds like, according to LITP, the hubs were put on here in the United States. In my case, the PO just did not cut a hole in his himself nor bothered to go down and buy the correct cap with a hole in it from Toyota. Interesting stuff. The details. Thanks you guys for the info.

my parts books that I laid my hands on, only show the solid caps thru 1965, will have to find my 66-67 books

Jan 1975 is the 1st year I show Toyota offered a hub cap with the center cutout, this was from looking at a few parts books from 1969-1979

the ashtrays I am pretty sure were meant for the dealers/salesman/part counter, not customers......gotta remember back in the 60's everyone smoked and ashtrays were everyplace.....and on every salesmans desk, if I was buying a 40 back then.....I would have asked for the salemans ashtray to seal the deal ;)

Mine came from Thailand

Some pics of the undercarriage.

I still have some details to deal with but these pics are pretty good. Some cosmetic stuff also but,,,,,,,,,,,,,getting everything perfect takes time as you know. I should be done by end of next week.

A few more pics of details.

A) PINTLE HOOK ( sandblasted and powdercoated ). Will put on Monday.

B) TOYOTA SHOCKS ( the two fronts also fit the two rears perfectly on the 1962 FJ40 if anyone is wondering ). The 4 were kind of scarce but Toyota located them in Los Angeles, Seattle and Kansas City.

C) The STEP material. One is Pyramid White on the left that I bought in New York. The other is from a restoration place close to me in Temecula. I ended up using the one on the right.

The 1962 fj40 restore is done!!!!

Here are some pics I took today in the wine country here in Temecula. I bought the cruiser about 1 year ago to the day that I finished it. The last thing to get done today was the front license plate holder. I took over 100 pictures. Here are a few. Hope you guys enjoy them and thanks to everyone for your encouragement, detailed comments that kept me on track to do an all stock original restore and most of all, thanks to those who gave up parts for this project. We could not have stayed so original without the help of you guys. fjfjfj

Can't say it enough .... oh, nevermind. You know. Nice $60,000 truck FJFJ !!!! I love the pics - I will referrence them over and over this next year.

You need to get some other classic cars together for a shoot. Shame you're not closer to San Simeon, it would be awesome to get a series of photos at Hurst Castle.

will say it again.......damn thats a nice 40, you did a hell of a job on it.
