A few more pics.

Pulled it out of the garage, quick drive. Back to solving a few issues and decided to redo my steps. Also, painting the outside mirror so both are missing. But, it is coming along and should be done by end of next week. Am taking it back to my painter this week also for touch up spots outside, inside, undercarriage. I want it as perfect as possible. That last pic is when I brought it home to California from Colorado last August 2012. Also, need to find a period correct license plate holder. Anyone have one to sell, any condition is fine. Please lemmie know. Thanks.

what a amazing job you did on the 62......damn!

Also, not sure if all U.S. Toyota Dealerships where handing out ashtrays when you bought a Land Cruiser ( made in Japan written on the back ) but a Dealership in Carson City, Nevada was back in 1963.

So the earlier hubcaps on front wheels didn't have a hole for hub?

Just looked at my July 63 micro-fiche and it doesn't show a part number for a optional cap with a hole. Guessing those came around 65. By then Toyota was partnering with companies in the US to offer optional equipment to dealers. Ramsy winches, Eaton heaters Husky soft tops and Husky lockout hubs. Those options includes a Radio designed for the Crown with installation kit, carpeting and Air Conditioning. Unlike the other options these last three are rare.

Hello Landpimp,,,,,,,,Thanks for the nice comment. That is very COOL that you have that ashtray. I have never seen another one besides mine. And yours is even cooler being an FJ25. Mine is definitely an FJ40 version. It has the BEZEL and I know it was given when my friend's dad bought his 1963 FJ40 in Carson City, Nevada brand new. From looking at yours they pretty much kept to the same style of ashtray. Pretty wild. I bet there ain't many around. lol.

HUBCAPS

LITP,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I noticed on my 1968 FJ40 the front HUBS did NOT have a HUB CAP as you can see in the pictures. I do NOT think front HUB CAPS even had holes in them in 1968. Is that possible? Does anyone know if Toyota offered optional locking hubs in 1968? I am wondering if mine were original with the cruiser or an add-on later. It has been years since I owned that cruiser. I was looking around trying to find a picture of older front hub caps over HUBS on original cruisers but I could not find anything. I only know mine did not have them. Of course there are the variables. What do you think?

so much I forget

but as there were no OEM manual hubs on the early Cruisers, just drive plates, the hub caps would not fit over any of the after market manual hubs, so they were left off or were cut out in the center to fit over the hubs.

......I think

and now I will have to go look at the caps on my 65 FJ45LV, I know some of the early caps I have were for sure cut out in the center

I have a ton late 50's early 60's parts books....but they are sorta packed up

Here are some old brochures from 1968 and older ( and newer ). I do not see any front holes in the caps.

I believe drive plate were how they all were imported until the late seventies. Toyota offered US made lockout hubs to their dealers here . This was going on in the early sixties. By around 65 Toyota was making a hub cap to fit axles fitted with this US dealer offered lockout hubs. I have old technical buletins/price sheet with pricing for both with a with out the hole. Stock was drive plates with solid caps. I bought a couple of the repo hub caps with holes because all my others were cut out later. The caps were onlyaround $5 if I remember correctly but back then $5 was a lot more money then it is now. So people just cut the original ones. When I bought my 68 back in 1974 it only had three hub caps. Being poor I bought the two missing ones I needed for year wheel and tire place. Needed one of each. I remember picking up the best one of each kind. The one with the hole was cut later. I'll go see if I can find the date and pricing. I do remember full retail on a tool roll was around $60 at that same time. How many tools could you buy from sears back in 65?
