I didn't honk because my FJ40 does not have a working horn. Need to fix the horn button on the steering wheel, and then install the loudest 12v horns I can find.

I've been over Lolo Pass many times, but never in my Land Cruiser. Have to do something about that. There's a cool waterfall near Lolo Pass that I'd like to hike to.

Romona Falls is also near Lolo Pass, but it's a much longer hike. There's an image of it here, with a lot of other pics from the region.
Mountain and Waterfalls

My son and I were discussing another Barlow Road run, if they've removed the six foot diameter tree from the road near Bonnie Crossing.

Haven't been going my wheeling for wheeling's sake lately. Most of our off roading this year has been hunting related. We've been going mainly to the White River Game Management Area, from Pine Grove to Tygh Valley.

my horn is not working yet either :D

I have wanted to check out barlow road for a while.
If your heading up one weekend let me know, would love to check it out.
I am not really into hardcore rock crawling however, just enjoy exploring the region.

Destin,
It's your vehicle, you can call it whatever you want. I think the bottom line is that just about everyone on MUD see's how clean and unmolested your FJ40 is and wish they could put it in a bottle and preserve it just the way it is. That's not practical for the very reasons you point out, and to have a 'driver' you'll have to make the mods that work for you. I think 'restore' works very well for what you have planned.
I read an article about an FJ45 that someone (a doctor with alot of $$$$) restored because his father had owned it and it had great sentimental value. He didn't restore it to ORIGINAL, but rather to the FJ45 that he remembered as a kid, to include painting the rust back on to the white paint. It didn't have the value of an ORIGINAL '45, but who cares; he built it to please himself. With this group that's alot more important than trying to please a judge at a concours d'elegance.

PS I put some pictures of my 'restored' M100 trailer on a website for purist military restoration buffs and got absolutely SLAMMED. I think one guy was crying as he typed his reply about how ugly the Model A tail lights were and why would anyone Durabak the inside of the box. I think that was when I realized that restoration means something different to everyone and you just do the best job you can.

I love your dune beige fj btw man, looks so sweet :)

I definitely want to keep my fj stock, I am even taking out bits the owner added :)
The color was a tough choice foe me however. But the coral red has been growing on me ever since I bought it :)

Here ya go. Thanks.

Now, if I only lived in a place like this:

Looking at your trailer, it's not riding level because of the height difference in its and the FJ40 hitches. Have you considered doing a springover on it? I did on mine. It wasn't difficult to do. Check this thread out.

And for living in places like this... I'm only about 5 minutes from the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, which is full of beautiful waterfalls. In fact, we're leaving in a few minutes for a late afternoon picnic at one of the falls. The Mt Hood area is only 30 to 45 minutes away, and the ocean beaches are less than 2 hours away. We're bless with some of the best scenery in the world here. Of course, the penalty for this is rain. It only rains once a year here - September through June LOL. I've been to every part of Oregon except for the far NE corner and Hell's Canyon. We have everything from high desert to rain forest. Did I mention waterfalls? Oregon is full of them.

This book is The Bible for those chasing waterfalls in the Pacific Northwest.
Waterfall Lover's Guide To The Pacific Northwest

And this is a website that expands on this book.
Welcome to the Northwest Waterfall Survey
Mouse over one of the states, and you'll find the waterfalls in it broken down by region.

Waterfall exploration and photography, and hunting, are the two main reasons why I have an FJ40.

Destin, I wouldn't touch the paint at all. Give it a good wash, add a top and some door fabric and call it done. There's a certain "patina" to that rig that I don't think you should mess with.

"It can be restored many times, but it's only original once."

indeed :D

I do love the patina as well, but there is a lot of spots with surface rust forming in underneath the fenders and in little nooks unfortunately.
And living in oregon, I think the responsible thing to do would be to media blast and remove all the rust and repaint it with acrylic enamel to preserve the truck.

If i could protect it from rusting by keeping it the original paint I am all ears :)
But i get the feeling that it is not possible.

I think this is the one that was painted to look like it was rusted, but was actually a full restoration, or whatever. Some people have waaaay to much $$.

People can spend their loot however they like, but yeah, I would presonally feel pretty silly forking out cheddar to make my paint look aged ;)

That said it looks convincing from that distance :D

ok I need to take a part in for a test spray...

trying to think of a bit i can take in that would have enough surface area to reflect the results, while not being a royal pain to transport. ideally be able to drive it with out the bit if i really needed to :)

Maybe the front fender, and just secure the turn signal under the front clip till I get it back?
Tail gate?

Hehe, I know, dumb question ;)

what you need to do is keep looking thru MUD and find some colors you like and go from there.dont let someone pick your color for you ,or you'll never be happy. rock on :flipoff2::cheers:

nice man :)

Is that a rover color?

Looks sharp!

I am definitely going with the original color though :D

Land Rover Defender 90
Arles Blue

If you do it right and take care of the rust and paint it with the color in the top left of this picture you will add about 10k to the value to your cruiser.
