Another vote for the factory red with olive drab paki soft top.
STOCK COLOR!! Who nows what the early FJs are going to be worth i the future ( Yours is rare so that will make it worth even more) But if you stick with the origanal color in might mean $$ in the bank Later. Looks like you have a great find!!

You have a stock cruiser it needs to be a stock color. Perferably the original color. It's your cruiser though. DO what makes you happy. If you are the kind of person that goes through phases and this cruiser phase will pass. Keep it original.

I think by the nature of asking questions and absorbing the accurate, constructive and informed results, helps one make informed decisions.
Not all of us on this forum have the innate wisdom and fundamental understanding of restoration vernacular to make decisions without consulting more informed people.
I really do not think this makes me stupid, but rather smart.
And by result, the question is not dumb.

Sorry if you took my comment as an insult towards your intelligent’s, it was in no way meant that way and in no way did I mean to infer that you were stupid. Your original question is so basic in nature that it just seems to be one that doesn’t need to be asked.
Restore = A return of something to a former, original condition. (That would include paint)
If it were me with your rig, which I think is great as is and I would keep it as original un-restored as possible and enjoy it.

cool I hear ya.
I do like the condition it is in now, but I am going to restore it to prevent it from rusting away. The rust is pretty minimal now, but living in oregon that might not last long if i do not take the proper steps. So repainting is in the cards
Going for the original color btw, just wanted to run it by some of the more experienced people here and get feed back

You do bring up a good point though. We've really bastardized the word 'restore'. I consider what I did to my FJ40 a restoration, although I picked a color that wasn't available in '67 and threw in a '73 Transition engine. So is it accurate? Hell no. But it's still a hoot to drive.
I look forward to watching your rebuild, restoration, resto-mod.

I initially assumed restore meant bring it to the factory condition for the year etc, not the specific vehicle.

It's your vehicle, you can call it whatever you want. I think the bottom line is that just about everyone on MUD see's how clean and unmolested your FJ40 is and wish they could put it in a bottle and preserve it just the way it is. That's not practical for the very reasons you point out, and to have a 'driver' you'll have to make the mods that work for you. I think 'restore' works very well for what you have planned.
I read an article about an FJ45 that someone (a doctor with alot of $$$$) restored because his father had owned it and it had great sentimental value. He didn't restore it to ORIGINAL, but rather to the FJ45 that he remembered as a kid, to include painting the rust back on to the white paint. It didn't have the value of an ORIGINAL '45, but who cares; he built it to please himself. With this group that's alot more important than trying to please a judge at a concours d'elegance.

PS I put some pictures of my 'restored' M100 trailer on a website for purist military restoration buffs and got absolutely SLAMMED. I think one guy was crying as he typed his reply about how ugly the Model A tail lights were and why would anyone Durabak the inside of the box. I think that was when I realized that restoration means something different to everyone and you just do the best job you can.

Now that I think of it, there's very little on either of these things that is 'restored'. I guess I just 'cleaned them up'.

fireflyr, I'd like to see more pics of your FJ40 and M100 trailer. Dune Beige is one of my favorite colors for an FJ40. It just says "camping, hunting and fishing" to me. Dune Beige especially looks good with your green canvas top.

I didn't honk because my FJ40 does not have a working horn. Need to fix the horn button on the steering wheel, and then install the loudest 12v horns I can find.
I've been over Lolo Pass many times, but never in my Land Cruiser. Have to do something about that. There's a cool waterfall near Lolo Pass that I'd like to hike to.

My son and I were discussing another Barlow Road run, if they've removed the six foot diameter tree from the road near Bonnie Crossing.
Haven't been going my wheeling for wheeling's sake lately. Most of our off roading this year has been hunting related. We've been going mainly to the White River Game Management Area, from Pine Grove to Tygh Valley.
