I got some new wrap for my engine harness near the EGR tube as mine has pretty much crumbled away.

Can I just wrap the EGR tube instead. Seems like it would be good to reduce the under hood temps by using a header type wrap on it.

Added benefit would be not having to worry about burning my hand/arm while working in the back of the engine compartment.

Thoughts???

Thanks in advance

I just warped the harness then disconnected the egr tube by doing the bypass, no check engine, no hot tube, u can just plug it back in 5 min if u need emissions

summit racing sells sleeving that has a velcro strip on it, perfect for this application IMO. I used this and slapped it on the harness at that location, used zip ties to hold it down. I used standard plastic zips, but metal ones would be a better choice.

Wrapping the pipe may be a good idea, but we have just been tying the harness back to the original anchor bracket with several wire ties. As long as there is no contact between the wiring harness and the tube, we have not seen any problems with the wires getting damaged from the heat. John

I went the standard route after seeing how tight things were back there. Here are my results. I managed 3 layers of wrap. Probably overkill.

Stripped the dilapidated insulation off of the harness to confirm that I didn't have any damaged wires.

There's a slight gap between the harness and EGR tube. I used a zip tie to secure the harness to the original mounting post.

After a lot struggling to reach the harness in a way that wasn't going to dislocate my knee cap. Here's how I got it done with the maximum amount of comfort.

I did basically the same backwoods. First I wrapped in aluminum tape. Then header wrap, and meal zip ties. Should be good. Everyone should do this as PM. Good work

I used Thermo-Tec 14002 1 1/2" X 15' Thermo-Shield Roll. Available on amazon. Made several passes. It is sticky and easily attached to that section of wiring. Worked great. Also held up very well to a fiasco with that stupid banjo bolt for fuel rail right next to that area as well when I replaced the injectors.

Hope that shovel doesn't arc to the batt.:(

The PO of my rig did a nice job of wrapping the harness for me with what looks to be like some kind of a fiberglass exhaust wrap? Anyway the harness was still coming into contact with the EGR tube and it had started to brown and mold /melt the wrap into the shape of the tube, I guess I could have tried to zip tie the harness away from the tube but I decided to take a piece of ceramic welding squares I had laying around and place them between the tube and harness. The ceramic is just that ceramic squares with one side of aluminum foil with a strong adhesive. The pic is the PO's job which was good enough if anyone is interested I will post a pic of the ceramic in place tomorrow.

I kept imagining this for myself in my head before seeing your setup. So I see it will work!

I don't know that I'd be using plastic zip ties in this environment. I know the temps will be considerably lower if one wraps the EGR tube, but there is 'some' heat and it would probably deteriorate them very quickly. Maybe some metal hose clamps or even bailing wire would be a better choice in holding the thermal wrap. My .02 worth.

I would not wrap the EGR pipe.
It will trap moisture against it and likely quickly corrode unless it is stainless.

Does anyone know how or have a picture of how the harness came from the factory at this location (next to the EGR tube)? I've had my truck for 7 years and it has heat wrap and is zip tied to the metal heater hose Y tube not touching the EGR pipe. I would think this is not factory and the PO had a mechanic who knew Cruisers.

In this photo, what type of hose clamps are those? It looks like you would have equal pressure all the way around the hose? I like them, could you source those please? Thanks
