The headlight wiring harness on the pass. in front of the batt. on my 89 x cab is really corroded. so some times when I turn on my headlights that one will not come on until I physically bump it. and it is really dim compared to the other. does any one sell just a pigtail portion of the harness?

I just looked at the EPC and it looks like it originates at the fuse block and it's all part of the cowl harness. So no. Probably the best thing to do would be to go to the U-Pull and cut out that section of harness and splice it in. Note that it comes off the fuse block, runs to the passenger light, then the drivers. You might confirm that under the hood.

Roger Brown (4Crawler) sells an upgraded wiring harness on his website for Gen1 trucks and 4Runners. I don't know if that would eliminate your problem but you might take a look. I don't think that they are very expensive. I will probably order one myself to go on my 85, sooner or later.

get it out of the harness enuff to dip it in a container of muratic (hydrochloric) or phosphoric acid. i'd try the muratic first. neutralize with white vinegar.

it'll clean out all the corrosion.

or go buy a aresol of battery terminal cleaner

FYI: Muriatic(Hydrochloric)acid or phosphoric acid will not be neutralized by vinegar(acetic acid). Baking soda dissolved in water will; That's what's generally in those batt terminal cleaners.

First, you will need to clean up the corrosion in the wiring harness. Pluton is correct, vinegar is an acid. Baking soda will neutralize the acid corrosion. I have not tried this one, but I hear that it works on battery corrosion, Coca-Cola or Pepsi.

I just did the Round Eyes conversion with the harness that Roger Brown sells and it is a great upgrade.

The easiest place to hook the new harness to the old one, is were you are having problems. So, you have to fix that first. Also, if you can afford to get a gel cell battery like the Optima. It will eliminate the corrosion problems around the battery.

I'm planning to post a thread of my headlight upgrade. I just have not had the time to get it together yet. Here are a couple of photos. The yellow connector, below the white one on the headlight, is were the new harness connects to the old one. This is how your old wiring controls the new relay harness.

Kevin,

I installed the Roundeyes headlights into my 85 4Runner and would like to order and install one of the 4Crawler harnesses. Did you stay with the H4 socket or did you change to the 9004? Any problems either way?

Thanks!

I stayed with the H4 connectors. To change over to the 9004, you would have to change one or two of the connectors and I did not want to do that. Everything works perfectly. No problems with any of it. As I said, I plan to post a thread and just need the time to get it done.
