Oh My...
The 2 tone colors are so attractive.
Is this a customer rig or yours?
What's going to be on the rear?

It’s the companies truck, so yes more or less mine.

It will be a multi use rear platform with a basic (not really 🙄) flatbed with an “overland” set up optional to run on top of that. Not a full height hardshell canopy but a shorter one with roof top tent above it. Blah blah blah, follow along and see!!

Cheers

Manual transmission rock crawler too! 4.53 1st gear in the H152, what is it in the 343, 2.80?

Stellar Built just released a video on fitting the BB in an 80, their low low range gear calculations is 8.5:1 with the 343. I am substantially lower in first with the manual transmission. In the video they state with the BB you have a 3-speed tcase, it’s actually a 4-speed. Normal 1:1 high range, high range with BB engaged (BB is 2.85is), normal low range (3.11 in my tcase with low range gears), and finally low low which is low in tcase with BB engaged.

It’s the same thing basically as the Ranger Torque splitter box from Advanced Adapters. I had that in a 60 with a v8 and the stock 4spd. It was super fun to drive due to so many gear options.

Cheers

I don't know anything about the Black Box, I haven't really been following cool cruiser stuff as much as I used to, but I do remember in the past with the low gear options that for highway driving oiling and heat was a concern, I vaguely remember Slee having a problem with the low gear setup back on Ultimate Adventure. Is there an external oil cooler for the Black Box?

Yup, it seems best to run an external cooler. I don’t think I will run one like in the Stellar video I linked, I think I will run it in front, in the grill since I don’t have or need a trans cooler.

There seems to be a lot of issues fitting the BB in an 80 due to fuel tank clearance, trans crossmember, trans hump and it’s clearance and more! Most of those issues are null and void here in the UTE! 😋

Haha sorry I guess I should have watched the video before I posted. I will keep my mouth shut and just watch haha

No worries man. I honestly think they probably got a lot of info from here on the forum. In the video they talk about searching the internet for fitting info and finding not much. They don’t name iH8mud but yeah, search google for BB in an 80-series and see what comes up!

Best documentation is on here probably besides a few YouTube videos. Seems it’s a total pita when you have the stock fuel tank along with a bunch of other things. Like! Trans crossmember, trans hump, rear driveline length, ect ect.

Luckily most if not all of that is null and void in the UTE! 😆

Cheers

I know it's been said already, but that hood is so badass.

I have a variety of clear lights coming from Japan. These are clear lens with LED light and built in “anti flicker/flashing” dealio.

I can do this two ways, with the original cap to the rear.

Or to the front

IMG_1154.webp

I will probably do the front but might as well mock up both first. Can’t really join the two or move a cap over, caps are plastic welded on and the trim is thin metal with a rubber coating. I can clean it up a bit at the cut for sure.

When you know how to be a good digger in the parts world you can produce a lot of parts.

IMG_1158.webp

This whole box is full of random body grommets, we have several other boxes full too!

IMG_1159.webp

Pretty happy with how my doors are turning out.

IMG_1160.webp

Amazing you can still get this on a vehicle nearly 30yrs out of production!

Still bare but happy to be here and happy where it is going!

Rear window drama, only due to us raiding the parts I had acquired for this on the UTE (complete at one point) and now having to figure out what we stole and what we need. Then order and find out we need to source from more than one vendor overseas! 😵‍💫

IMG_1162.webp

Dying to install it though! 😋

IMG_1164.webp

Time to mate this to my 1HDFT, unfortunately the UTE is going to go into low priority mode! We got a Cruiser out of paint (after a year in paint) showing up Monday!! So I guess it will get pushed aside for now. We need a bigger shop, years ago! 😑

I ended up with an 1HDFTE long block so yeah, probably going to build that for this Cruiser and sell the FT I built for it.

In my world the FTE is far superior so why not!?

Cheers

It’s been hidden all winter under a car cover. Drug it out today.

I have all the parts to install the rear sliding window so want to get that done.

I forgot how far along this thing was!

Ya but I just robbed the engine from it, the transmission I may also rob. I also am taking the front Fox 12” shocks I bought for it and putting in a different Cruiser.

So I am back burning it, more than it already was!! I bought this which is already on the road it just needs a bunch of bling before I start using it.

One of the main reasons for all this is because I ended up with a 1HDFTE long block. So I am upping my game here in the UTE from an FT (mechanical diesel) to an FTE (electronic diesel). 😎
