Still on the fence with this project. Done tons of research on this forum, thanks all for you contributions. As with any forum, there seems to be some contradicting information. I see some lists contain new drive shafts, transfer case, manual hubs, some do not. Before I proceed, I would like to get as accurate as possible the required parts list for a 1993 FZJ80, 1FZ-FE with A442F auto swapping to a H151 manual transmission. Please respond if you have DONE, or assisted this exact swap. I would appreciate resources you used and had success with, rough pricing if possible. Please no discussion on other options, why I'm considering this swap, why I shouldn't do it. You can PM me if you prefer.

Thanks so much,
Joel

Great, thanks Tapage, I may be contacting you for information as I tackle this project. Amazing writeup and truck, by the way, looks real good! One question I have to start this off, I saw one parts list mention that the H150 or H151 manuals will require a part time transfer case and freewheeling hubs for the front wheels, is this what you are running? Anyone else have knowledge on this? I would love to retain my full time T/C with viscous coupler if possible, I think it bolts up to a H151. Any Aussies out there have knowledge on this setup with early FZJ80 and 1FZ-FE petrol gasser engine?

Thanks........

You don't ..

I mean your t-case should be a bolt on to your manual tranny ( H150 or H151 ) and then if you keep your AWD t-case ( guess HF2AV ) there is no reason to change flanges in your frond axle ..

My '97 is 1FZ-FE/H151 and has full time 4WD - as did all the H151 equipped 80s here in AU. If there's anything you need to see, I can crawl under there and get some photos....let me know.
Good luck if you decide to go ahead, the 1FZ-FE/H151 combination works very nicely off road.....you'll love it!

Andrews, thanks so much! I bet I will be bugging you for info when I get deep into this. I made two trips to Oz with my wife, both times renting bad a-- cruisers to tour Frazier Island and then Blue mountain areas, I wish I had access to half the cruiser toys you guys do! Anyway, enough crying and back to business, all I need now is to get my hands on the H-151 itself, preferably with a bellhousing that mates to a 1FZ-FE. If you hear of one laying around near you that is willing to ship my way send me a PM.

Hey Joel, I can get some measurements of the driveshaft length on a 97 fzj with a h151.
One of my mates had a auto tail shaft on his manual cruiser, it worked but was almost fully out of the slip joint.

Thanks for the info, Dana, I will try and contact those guys at Paradise as well just in case my nearby hookup falls through. Neil, I'll take you up on your offer for drive shaft measurements whenever convenient for you, no rush, it will be a bit before I get to that point.

Thanks, guys

Joel, where are you and how are you sourcing your H151f locally? Are there any more reliable or direct options than going to Japan, Oz, or say Venezuela to find these gearboxes? There must be someone who has a solid line on these gems.
I Almost hand one from Jan down in California last year, but it was scooped up.
Am I correct in thinking that the Manual transmission was never sold in North American 80s?

Also, Specter Offroad seems to have a 5 spd transmission that fits years 90-98. Ive asked if it's an H150f or H151f, waiting for response.
What ever it is, it's an expensive box at 3200$ for member discount.
Also, if you get a hold of Paradise parts, there Joel, please let me know what they say, I won't be able to call until next week when I get out of the bush (i'm stealing time and Wi-Fi from work to research all this  )

You got it, Dana, messages sent to Paradise so I'll let you know when I get word back. The local source is a friend of a friend who claims to have one in his shop storage in the area. From conversations I'm having, I don't think he knows for sure what tranny it is, so I may be out of luck. Going to go check for myself in the next week or so. Specter has given me a 'yes, in good condition' when I directly asked if the 5 speeds listed in their catalog were H151's, so I guess they are. All other sources have come up empty handed.

See my signature.
H151F are hard to find and may required a rebuild. Used ones from OZ are the same price as a new one in Japan.
LandCrusher80

Landcrusher! Do you know of any connections in Japan where we can get our hands on some transmissions?!

Used no. Almost impossible to find one. New yes.Toyota has them in stock.
I can ship you one. Or you can contact other suppliers in Japan (Japan 4X4 etc.).

Dana, talked with Dave at Japan 4x4 for parts a while back, but not for the transmission itself. Emailed him and he passed the information that he sent your way to me. That is a pretty viable option, and being a brand new unit! I would have to swap bell housings though, which is a fat cost plus shipping so we'll see. I'm not getting any responses from Paradise yet either, you? Maybe LandCrusher80 can hook us both up!

LandCrusher80 says he'll talk to his contacts see what kind of prices he can get, next week.
Paradise just asked me to call them. I won't have decent enough cell/internet to call them until I get out of the bush next in 5 days.
I'm debating the cost of the used ones for the security of the new box..
