Will a stock GX470 fit 275/70-17's with a wheel that is 17x8.5 -10 without rubbing? Trimming liners and side steps is fine with me. I know 4runners will fit this without a lift so i'm wondering if it holds true for the GX. I did try to do a search but nothing came up. Thanks in Advance.

I'm wondering this too as I'll prob add these size tires before a lift as I'm in need right now of new rubber.

Without a lift, probably not without some rubbing if you are offroading. You will need to trim fender liners (or massage with heat gun) and the side skirts no matter what.

To answer your PM, I run a 285/70-17 on a 17x8 -10 with a 2" lift (front spacers, rear spacers + airbag trick)

Here is a comparison of my setup vs your proposed.

with factory suspension, wheels and 265/70 tires our GX would rub slightly when making turns up/down our driveway. This was prior to the TJM lift, so I never modified the fender liners. 275/70's would rub worse as others have mentioned.

i dont know what the offset is, but i ran 285s on tundra wheels and and on fjc wheels with no lift... slight rub on the running boards and and fender linders, and i wheeled it, it never grabbed anything or damaged a thing.

This forum is a great resource - nice rigs, fellas!

I'm looking for some insight on tires this same size and application....n otherwise stock 2004 GX470. Though I have 17 x 8 F (x) pro wheels en route. 0 offset, 4.25 backspacing.

My use takes me off road in muck and old logging roads of Northern MN but not the mountain trails of the West. Mostly, I want good winter bite in a tire that can handle daily duty without the loud growl of a mud tire. I don't need the durability of the E load cap. unless I decide to make more significant upgrades.

I'm likely going for either 265/65/17 P rated Duratrac or BFG AT KO2 265/70/17 (C load) - I know both are louder than stock and both are going to handle different. My main question is whether the C load of the BFG is drastically more harsh compared to the Duratrac at the stock size (I read the 70 aspect Duratrack rubs). This is an apples to pears question, I know, but if anyone has run the BFG on stock suspension, I'd like to hear their experience on pavement and freeways - I know both will handle great off road. FYI - I'm currently on stock Dueller H/T 840 .... balding.

Thanks for any insight...

I am running 265/70/17 on stock suspension and have never heard it rub even on some mild off roading. I am running the wheels from a 2010 plus 4runner trail edition.

I have 265/70/17's on stock wheels. 2/1 lift. It rubs the upper control arm just a little. Rubbed the liner in the front and I heated and bent that out of the way. Not sure what to do about the minor rubbing on the upper control arm. Alignment is fine. Hate to buy new UCA just for a minor rub that probably isn't hurting anything.

Will a 275.70.17 fit in the spare location?

Anyone care to update this thread with their recent experience?

I’m near to purchasing tires for 17x8.5 rims -10 offset 4.3” Backspacing

Truck is not lifted as of yet as I’m putting that part off for now.

Can I get away with 275 70 17? Dont mind trimming etc.

And what seems to be the limiting factor with rubbing? Is it width or height or both or too hard to tell/explain?

Opinions welcomed!

I’d think you’d be close to catching the body mount with that setup. I’m running 8.5 w 0 offset on 285/70/17 and am close but don’t rub the body mount.
Had to trim and move front plastic forward, trim and remold the inner plastic at the body mount.
Tire height is usually not this issue IMO, it’s the width and wheel setup. Most will catch the UCAs with a wider tire so they go with a different wheel setup or spacers to push the tires away from the UCAs. The farther outward the tire is pushed= increased arc= chance of rubbing the body mount. Not that a Body Mount chop isn’t doable if needed.

Also pushing the caster as far forward as you can will help.
