GX460 P2714 P0761 Ultimate Summary and Hope For A Fix Thread

Here’s the final parts list I ordered. May come in handy if anybody else wants to go down this road. I could not find an aftermarket source for the valves, so I’m taking a chance that a fresh set of valves and o-rings will seal better. It seems like a lot of work not to change out every spring, they were fairly cheap. If overheating was the culprit, there’s no telling what spring deformation occurred.

Are the 3 on the left what you are calling accumulator pistons and seals?

Yes, those plastic ones. You do not need to replace them unless freakishly it cracked or was damaged somehow. Replacing the o rings is the key part. Some shops would "stretch" the springs a little to firm things up if they were reusing. Check the old o rings to make sure they are not hard/stiff, but it's always good practice to replace all of them when you have it this far a part. The red circle one is your b1? accumulator. it's a solid aluminum and this is what wears down the bore and leaks as it doesn't have sealing rings. Sonnax and Trans-Go have their own variations of replacements with sealing rings. You can opt to get a new one instead to seal a little better than old but some shops will go with aftermarket for insurance. I think you can air/vacuum check to verify.

Sorry I haven't checked my emails to respond back.

Thank you for your response. I’ve already ordered everything. The B1 will be a Sonnax replacement with an o-ring. So far there’s only one small spring in the C3 configuration I can’t get. I’ll prob reuse the old one. I figured the springs were too cheap to reuse. This is the last thing I’ll try before ordering a rebuilt from Lexus.

Is there anything else you’d recommend replacing or looking at while I’m in there? I’ve already installed a zip kit. And I have a 24 oz bottle of Lucas transmission additive I’m putting in at the same time.

Funny story, when I called my local Lexus dealer parts guy to ask about O-ring part numbers (just to make sure I had the right count), he said “I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but Lexus can’t warranty or guarantee that it’s going to work”. 🤣🤣

For those of you who don’t remember me, I had very minor symptoms and P0714 and P0761 codes late last winter. I pulled the car off the road right away to avoid any potential damage to the transmission and then installed the Sonnax zip kit. I also found a check valve hole in the shim plate that was worn egg shaped, which I tig welded and machined round.
All was well for about 9 months until the extreme cold hit here last month.
The shift lag when cold came back, and it started slipping in first from takeoff. Funny thing is it would pull right out of the driveway no problem but slip when pulling out of the stoplight 1/4 mile down the road.
My wife found that if she took the long way around and allowed the transmission to shift through all of the gears without stopping she would be ok.
Only one code has returned, P0714.
And it’s shifting fine as long as temps are in the 20s and above.
I just added some lubegard and will probably just drive it until it becomes a problem.
Maybe I will swap the MaxLife atf out for idemitsu when it warms up.

I’ve been working with ChatGPT all morning for any last fixes I can try before ordering a rebuilt from Lexus. Today I’ll drop in 24 oz of Lucas transmission fix. I’m not optimistic about this but it makes sense as a cheap possibility. Then I’ll order the three accumulator pistons, springs, o rings from Sonnax for heavily worn bores. It seems I’m experiencing 2 failure types at once. And one (slippage when cold) can only repaired with a rebuild. But that’s not a huge issue for me. Time to warm up usually solves that one. I’m trying to sort out the exact piston numbers now. There’s a little confusion between b-1, b-2, B-3

Did the lucas make a difference?

Did the lucas make a difference?
I haven’t put it in yet. The Sonnax C1 came in. 14 more pieces are coming in tomorrow and the remaining next week. I may put the Lucas in this weekend, but as thick as it is, I have to pull fluid, cut the Lucas, and put the mix in. I didn’t want to go through the trouble if I already have to pull the pan and VB next week.

But I’ll try it this weekend to get some type of result before I pull the accumulators. Currently, I have no reverse without a full warm up except for dead cold start, then reverse feels like 10% or a clutch slipping. Even high revs may not get me reverse without a warm up. Same 3-4 lag, sometimes no up shift until warmed up. After warmed up, everything is fine. Manual shifting makes zero difference

Part number: 90501-27036
B3 accumulator valve piston.
This part is in millions of vehicles still on the road manufactured through 2023. Still being manufactured by Toyota for transmission rebuilds.

This has been the most PIA part to order. Nobody has it. Shipping on it it 4-5X the price of the part. Finally found a dealership that offered it. 20 minutes after I paid, back ordered email hit. Might have it by mid March. For one spring, on the one valve I think is most questionable. I don’t want to take apart the entire transmission and not replace this spring. I can’t find the specs to be able to measure the properties to find out if it’s out.

Has anyone tried getting their ecu fixed by Relentless Motorsport TX. Apparently Lexus IS with the auto 6 speed have the same issues and he’s able to fix them.

When I fried mine, I just bit the bullet and dropped $2500.00 on a new one. (ouch...)

hey man sorry to bother you, I was reading here since page #6, having p2714 p0761 and p0894, where did you bought the solenoids? which ones? and do I need the sonnax zip kit? I just got a 2011 gx460 with those codes. thanks in advance

I apologize for the reply earlier. I mistakenly thought you were asking me.

no worries man, I saw the whole post, I just ordered a new VB from impex japan, OEM like $560, lets see if I get hit by the tariff or something else and test this. right now Im thinking if I need to order a sonnax kit and install it to make it better and avoid problems, lets see

I would definitely replace all the accumulator valves and springs while you’re in there. I’m pulling mine back apart and replacing them next weekend.

Did it fix the p2714/p0761 issue for you? Or was it because of water hitting the ecu?
I fried the ECU by inserting the, (I forget what it's called now, but I'm sure someone can fill in the name), the chip to the fuse box under the hood to increase charging from the alternator to about 14.8 VDC into the wrong fuse slot. :bang:

I will take a look to your list, I already bought the new VB so I want everything new as much as I can without a mew transmission 🤣 also I will take a look to put a transmission cooler too.

If replacing the valves works, I’ll install a trans cooler. On the parts suppliers, Sonnax only supplies the C1 valve. Longo was the best price with shipping on the 90501-27036 spring and it took a few weeks to get in. Nobody else on the sheet had it.

All other parts I first tried to order from Lexuspartsnow.com then ordered what they couldn’t supply from Toyotapartsdeal.com. You might want to try the Toyota site first, but they took a few weeks longer.
