Put the new VB in and you can tell it is slipping. So the kits were working but probably too far gone when I put them in. Codes and problems started to happen ~ 25k miles before I put the shift kit and zip kit in. About 20k miles with using those kits. Still had codes but did not stick in 3rd gear as much.

Ordering a transmission today. Was going to rebuild untill I saw how sophisticated these transmissions are.

Going to order a transmission cooler as well.

Where are you getting transmission from?

Man, I'm sorry to hear! I was hoping for better news for you for me! Who is doing your transmission replacement? Do you plan on tearing down your transmission to see what burned up?

I find it odd that there's a good bunch that exhibit these problems and those that do not going 300k+ miles. Perhaps more rough city driving versus rural highway driving.

I got the transmission from lexus. It was 2900 plus 270 something for tax and 1k for core.

I am going to install it myself. I may have time to tear it down depending on time and then return it. When lexus gets these back as cores they rebuild them and replace everything on the inside with new parts and sell as reman so i may beable to return in pieces. Going to ask.

If they just sold you a brand new transmission it would be more than double, as the case is super expensive.

I came across this guy and been watching his videos and seems like he knows what he is talking about. Going with WS fluid as well

Don't forget the kits did help. But I installed too late

This guy also does a pretty decent job explaining WS fluid too. He also has his students rebuild the AB60 in another video that's hooked up to a dynamo

Dropped mine off yesterday to get a full transmission replacement. Lexus has reman's in stock with a 1 year warranty. Reverse was starting to go out so it was time. $5100 total, which I am OK with since I've heard about some closer to $8K.

Got her in today. Can't take it appart per return instructions. But we got to figure out how to get this data they have. This form has alot of info and I am sure they are finding out a common problem and are fixing it with these remains.

@lgoomba - What Lexus dealer did you purchase through? This sounds like pricing related to latest sales discounts

Thanks!

@Igoomba so 2900 and change before 1k core? I might have to start researching pricing for a new one as backup plan too.
Yeah it was 20% off on the online order. If I ordered through the dealership it was 3600. Then had to add tax and core charge. Comes with new valve body and torque converter. It cost me 1500 alone for a new torque converter. Should have just done this first.

I had to buy online to get the sale price and ship it to my closest dealership. If I shipped to home it was 300 something dollars. I shipped it to Lexus of Wesley Chapel here in Florida . It's pretty light. I can pick up the transmission myself when it's out of the box.

Man, that's a great deal

GXBob just posted a transmission drain and fill video.
He dropped the pan and changed his filter so we get a good look at the bottom of the valve body.

Thank you all for this…I’ve been dealing w a2714 and occasionally p0761 codes which I would clear and it would shift fine. It had 175k when I bought it and I changed the trans fluid then and when this started happening I tried it again at about 205k…it has 215k now…throwing codes more regularly. I’ve been driving in S manual now per reading here which has helped and no codes.

I pretty much keep it out of 6th unless it’s +70/75mph and not hilly. Where I live and drive daily - curves and hills. Aside from throwing those codes (only throws when cold, first run through gears) The first thing that ever happened was -up a significant hill Auto geared it down and had surging. Kept noticing it do that I’d let off accelerator, mash it back down and it would get over thr hill. Obviously remedied w S manual driving but Yesterday on that same hill I went into it in 6th at almost 80…as it quickly began to slow I downshifted but it felt like no power (I resisted slamming foot to floor)..I geared down to 4th and it did wha it supposed to do…off we went. I talked to a few mechanics they give me the general answer, you need a transmission. I’m trying to figure out if I would plan on replacing whole trans, or do I try these transgo/sonnax kits? Seems like a torque converonly is a waste of money at this point… I bought an oem solenoid 35290-34010 which is sitting on my counter and probably wasted money on it given what I’ve read…So any help here would be GREATLY appreciated.

Seeing some references to a RA60F 6 speed manual used in some diesel Prados in Australia and South Africa.

I’ve never seen anyone try to retrofit a GX 460 to a manual transmission

Has anyone swapped in a stick shift? What transmission comes in the non-us spec version?
I imagine there would be a huge amount of space in the trans tunnel with a manual. If someone were to do a swap, wonder if that could utilized all that space some way?
If you were to do a manual trans swap, why not also throw the matching diesel into?
Or, just import a Prado with a stick into some U.S. state/territory that'll allow it, then register it at you home state.

It's probably borderline infeasible (but not impossible) due to figuring out the ECM/PCM/canbus systems, as the rig would be expecting a signal from a transmission to be there. I don't think any 1UR engines (or any of the UR engines) came with a manual either, perhaps unless it was an option for middle-east spec 200 series Land Cruisers.

If Toyota did have a manual transmission capable of bolting up to the UR - and - you were able to source all of the Prado 150 manual transmission parts (transfer case, driveshafts, clutch pedal, shift linkage, cross member, shifter, console etc) - and - had someone with enough electrical knowledge to figure how to get the computer issues to work out, then yes it could be done.

A much easier mod is to upgrade the valve body and trans cooler in the 6-speed - which is vastly easier and less expensive - and have a very nice shifting and stronger auto.

To go less than 25 years looks like you would have go with Show and Display…. Which is usually for extreme speciality or rare vehicles and limited mileage.. it’s a federal reg
