Rick - might want to add that you should disco your battery prior to unplugging and then reconnecting your ecm. Nakman, that should alleviate any concerns you have.

Rick's method is exactly what I did to remove that duct as well. Hell I think I just removed everything that had a screw and kept removing parts until I felt I had enough room :D Everyone's instructions and photos were all really helpful and I've been really impressed with the quality and sturdiness of the grab bar.

Glad to hear you finally got yours in. Hope your :princess: is happy! ;)

Also happy to know that everyone, knock on wood, is happy with the bar. :D

Hope you all (not y'all;p ) have a good weekend!

Mot :)

Yeah, you have no idea :hillbilly

9-month preggers, 5'4" climbing into the truck w/ the Toyo 37's - talk about needing a photo! :grinpimp:  The grab bar handled it - tested tough!

With my post I was trying to give the impression that with the labelling (3a, 4a) that those would be added to Koffer's original proceedure and since he already covered disconnecting the battery I was good.

Guess that wasn't clear.

Would the job be easier if the passenger seat was removed?

Well I finally found time to install the grab bar...thanks MOT it was perfect. I had the whole dash taken apart to install the diff switch, relocate some switches, and install the 520 CB so I just kept going and installed the grab bar. I used landtank's updated instructions and removed the ECU and so the ac duct was way easy the hard part for someone with large hands as placing the nut on the left side behind the other ac vent...but after some bleeding and much scratching i got it buttoned up. I think it looks great!!! I found it interesting that the ac vent even had a dent in it to go around the back of the bar once installed.... it's like it was ment to go there are something.

PT with a dash grab bar?!?!

Dang! I didn't know the PT was so off-road capable! Should I be having second thoughts about my LX purchase?

Do the PT's come with pink panties?

On a more serious note, WOW, what a cool mod! Definately grateful to those who have gone the distance, thus far, to show the rest of us how jealous we truly can become! Where's my pen... gotta put this on the "must-have" list!

Can someone supplement this FAQ topic with a couple bits of info. I can't seem to locate?

1. Is the grab bar available for '91-92 FJ80?
2. Where can one purchase a grab bar? Someone or someplace name "Mot" seems to have them but I'm not familiar with "Mot?"

Thanks,
Mark

mot is the guy with about 6 posts in this thread, under the very cryptic screen name "mot", crazy I know! You can click on his name and send him a PM, or you can follow the link in the previous post.

:D

Thread revival. I have never heard anyone say how sturdy these things are after mounted. It looks like they only mount into the plastic of the dash. Are these plenty strong to hold on to if needed? No fear of ripping them out, or damaging the dash? And about what do these cost? (calling mot)

They are mounted to the metal bracket behind the dash, they are as sturdy as the overhead grab handles. They are a permanent install, ie. the dash is "damaged" with two holes, if you ever want to remove the grab handle...

It is a solid OEM fit, rock solid. IIRC it is standard equipment on some overseas models. I can't imagine why you would ever want to remove it. Looks stock, feels stock, it is stock.
