I like the idea a lot.. I am already planning on tearing the cruiser completely apart so WTH why not go a little crazy and have some fun doing it...RIGHT!

YES JAS, I'll paint the engine RED for you!..

Toyota paint code #309 will be replaced by #3L5..

Over the weekend and today I sourced and ordered ALL my rust panel patch pieces and door needs. Be here in a week or so. Also, a long range fuel tank that I will re-hab and fit under Goss.

I have decided to attempt a complete new custom dash (cap and front).. Plan on trashing the OEM dash, gauges, etc.. and replacing the gauges with all red digital displays and re-sculpt the look in the process. The only thing I plan to keep is the OEM vents and heater controls.. I want to re-face/configure the controls in some way.. I just haven't figured out how yet..

(YES, I have TIME ON MY HANDS with the new work schedule) our off-time will be playing with the cruiser and volunteering all we can with Vitalground.org, this is a grizzly bear protection organization.. see my signature line for link... I will have stickers for sale/donation by weeks end if anyone is interested.

If you're going to do the dash that way, may I suggest combining that effort with any cage you plan on putting in...

I've seen a lot of custom rigs that utilize that time to tuck the vertical "A" pillars of the roll cage further down the kick panel (to get them further out of the way of foot swing in and out) and they make a great, rigid mounting point for everything dash related in between them left to right.

Just a thought.

No cage J.. just a full-mod dash. Put things where I want them within reason...

J hold up on ordering the Wet Okole's... If you haven't ordered yet.

Fired up Goss this am and took him and Charlie for the 160 mile round trip to work today.

It was colder than a well diggers ASS... Brrr..

-18 F with a -49 wind chill.. Need to get the heater operational. It was a fun trip though and goss loved the drive.. The block heater would have helped and the neighbors would have appreciated the start up noise too.. HA!

Oh and 24.8 MPG today... :grinpimp:

160 miles round trip to work? please tell me you don't make that trip everyday. 24.8 mpg, very impressed. The best I got was 22.9 , but I'm running 4.11s.

M, Yes everyday.. I averaged around 250 a day in East Texas, but could travel as many as 450 miles in a day pending crew locations. My projects are remote and travel is a must for me... But, I'm home and in my bed every night here.

Mileage is great and the addition 27% OD with the Ranger rolls Goss out nicely.. Can't wait to see what 3.73s or 4.11s do.

Holy crap you are just making me want to put a diesel in BeBe that much more now!! I know that the cost benefit of adding the diesel is more prohibitive than anything but damn, to get ~24mpg, hell at this rate to get ~20mpg (which would be better than the 4Runner) would be awesome!

The best I've gotten is 22 and change as well. ~25 is badass :grinpimp:

That was easy cruising at 60-65 MPH.

How do you travel so much and still have time to have a hobby, work on the truck etc... You're my new motivation

M, I have a great wife. She knows it makes me happy and allows me time to play within reason and scope of the work needed to accomplish satisfaction on the rigs.

Also with the new work schedule (20 days on/10 days off) I have ample time for mini-monthly vacations, cruiser, and "US" time.

It works out pretty well. Work hard and play hard.

When I got the rig several people said 20 to 22 would be the best MPG I'd get. I got that coming back through the mountain passes easily running pretty hard and playing with it.

30 mpg's!!!!!

Probably not.. I'm hoping for a low MPH cruising target range of 27. Maybe/Maybe not... But, I'm hopeful.

My Cummins mechanic buddy ran through the motor and said for a first time Cummins build.... that Wyoming had this motor dialed in better than some of the 5 year certified mechanics that work for him. He tweaked a few things and was gone in a matter of 30 minutes.. He said he has seen several 4BTs get 25+ MPG and a couple over 30 in lighter and properly geared vehicles.

I'm happy with the 24+MPG, but gotta try the gear swap to see the results. :meh: Also remember I have a .62 to 1 ratio final drive. Pretty LOW!

I had a contract that did 28 on and 28 off in Yemen. It was good while it lasted, home enough to take care of things and see the fam, then back to the grind. That's where I learned to truly drive in the desert, all our fleet trucks were land cruisers too. I forgot Wyoming had a ranger overdrive in your rig, I must admit, I don't know much about them.

I might drive 160 miles a week right now...

Well, You'll have that thing broken in before too long! lol

Send some of that cold weather down this way. Texas shuts down when a thin mist of something that looks like snow covers the ground.

What's first in the midst of all those mods :)

First items on the list:

1) replace the fuel cut off solenoid
2) vent the fuel tank properly
3) clean up wiring and attempt to tie the ignition key into the OEM harness and 4BT properly. Get turn signal and wiper assy swapped.
4) repair the radiator fan switch
5) diagnose and repair the oil filter relocation LEAK
6) measure the suspension and get 7100s ordered
7) swap in the Aisin hubs
8) replace block heater (hopefully cord only)
9) If block heater element is bad, I'll drain down and swap radiator at same time and install drain valve.
10) unbox CruiserYard boxes and stockpile more goodies. door shells, quarter panel rust patches and LR fuel tank.
11) Pull spare hood and PS fender from the bone rack out back and let the ice melt off them for evaluation.

:hhmm: and whatever else I can squeeze in that weather and time allows for. If I get a 1/4 of this list done on my next 10 days off I'll be happy.
