Nice work, the jute is a great idea!

I loved reading through your
build with Marley and can't wait to see the process with Goss! You are an inspiration J, pure inspiration!

Thanks, glad you enjoyed my Marley build. He was a challenge for sure. I have a way better platform this time in some aspects and way worse in others..

Always a challenge. I like it!

That is a really good idea adding the extra seat foam. I'm don't know if I am going to go ahead and replace my seats or just do what you did. Mine definitely need some help though! Good work J and keep the progress pics coming!

Just saw this thread for the first time. Nice work!

Got the 4" lights and they are going to work perfect with some 4" sch 10 pipe. I'll french the pipe into the front and rear bumpers to house the lights. These are lexan lenses with metal housings. The Philips diamond bulbs will go in these too.

Also, picked up some foam board to start the dash modeling process. I love this stuff.

OK WTF!! I went outside and heard Goss gurgling.. It was burping diesel out of the filler neck...

I recently put a 1/2" vent line in the other day and it has sit for a few days.It has warmed up a bit weatherwise... But what could cause this? The tank didn't have a vent before.. Does anyone have an idea?

I pulled the vent line and immediately got fuel out of the 1/2" hose. I blew it out and can now get clear passage sucking and blowing through the vent line.

What the eff? That's weird...I'm sorry I can't be of any help, but I gotta chalk that up to pressure building...(I know, duh, right?)

JT, No gas cap and a 1/2" vent line from the tank to above the filler neck...So I don't see it being a pressuring up issue. I don' t know what the hell...

I know, but what's the other option? Did someone come overfill it while you weren't looking? The only way to displace volume is with pressure...from somewhere. (or expansion...as noted below) unless you dented the tank so badly that it now only holds less than half as much. The filler neck has a one way, right?

How do you have the vent lines routed? Do they go to the plastic canister in the passenger rear quarter panel? If so, do you still have the vent line running to the charcoal canister and the. To the air cleaner?

Two more things come to mind.

1) in the pic your truck seems to be sitting at an angle.

2) fuel will experience a 3-5% increase in volume as it warms up.

Ok.. 4BT.. No canister.. All lines were plugged from the tank to the fuel separator.

This is what I have now..

1) filler neck with the flapper cut out to allow for a diesel filler nozzle.
2) line that runs from the filler neck to the tank.
3) new 1/2" vent line from tank to above filler opening.

Did I possibly create some sort of siphon by adding the new vent line? When I blow in the new vent line I hear fluid bubbling in tank and air and fluid come from/ou the line tying into the filler neck..

It has been backed in until the last few days. So the tank filler opening WAS higher and on the higher grade. It has been sitting in this spot for the last 2-3 days. It is approx 10-15 degrees warmer today than in the past few days...

Do I need to add a second vent or a larger diameter line to try and prevent this from happening again?

J

Right now you have no vent. You need to change that.

I'd hook up all the vent lines again. Even the o e that used to go to the charcoal canister. You do t have to run the canister, so just run some fuel hose to a nipple on your air cleaner.

Thanks for the call Georg.

I basically have one corner of the four corners of the tank vented. However, the corner I have vented is now being used by nature to push the pressure/fuel out of the tank now because of the way it is sitting, the temp increase and how the fuel is situated in the tank by the grade the rig is sitting on. I sorta have a vent if the conditions are perfect sounds like...

I need to open the other 3 blocked off vents to the other corners of the tank to eliminate this burping/pressurizing issue. I will need to get more hose and fittings...

J

Odd...I have all the extra lines blocked on top of the tank, have the filler neck vent hooked up and a mostly sealing fuel cap (depends how I tighten it) and haven't had this problem. Isn't there a flapper door on the tank side of the filling opening? It's been so long since I was in mine.

M, there was the flapper that I drilled out and removed to accept the bigger diesel nozzle and the gas stations.

There are several guys that have removed this without this issue though..
