and anyone can do this. The simple answer is "no". Although the starter motor itself is higher speed, it is geared down to provide the same (or sometimes less) speed at the flywheel but with more torque. This will not give you more or quicker fuel delivery.Probably a dumb question from a non mechanic, but a while back I asked a question about having to pump my gas pedal a bunch of times after my 77 sat for several days. As I understood it, pumping the pedal was not the issue cranking the starter thus activating the fuel pump was getting me the fuel to start. So will this gear reduction starter be of any benifit in my situation. I have a good starter I installed after 2f rebuild, not many starts, but if this is an upgrade that effects my fuel issue it may be worth it.
I did the same thing--GR from Georg. No problems at all-- still running great after ~ 2 yrsI bought mine used, from Georg (@orangefj45) - it's off an FJ60 and I love it!! Some guys would rather hear the old one, as it cranks, but I like how quickly it turns over and how quickly 44 starts.
My old starter still worked and I carry it as a spare.... Might have been easier to carry the GRS as a spare...As @mags said.
Easy installation!! IIRC two wires - third existent wire not needed... Unless I return to the enormous OEM starter.
Used to have very similar probs with my 77. It has a weber on it--no heat shield . I had to pump/many times to get it to fire just after driving a short distance(10 miles)--fast forward--blew a head gasket, had to replace the head due to severe cracking(non-related to the fuel issue)Probably a dumb question from a non mechanic, but a while back I asked a question about having to pump my gas pedal a bunch of times after my 77 sat for several days. 78 if you don't mind me asking what is the grounding strap on your starter connected to. I just pulled my old one and the grounding strap was a frayed mess of copper wire that wasn't connected to anything at all but the starter. In other words I don't believe it was grounded before hand. Thanks.

turns out not getting a gear reduction starter is getting hard. i was looking for a direct drive and almost couldn't not find one. took me a while but i found one. i wanted the direct drive.
You are better off getting the gear reduction starter, don't even bother with the direct drive ones, as they are not worth it.
