The Man-A-Fre tank is built in Oz by Long Range Automotive. I had some dialog with them and was interested in importing a small number of these tanks and/or becoming a US distributor for their products. Apparently they were not interested in either idea. Oh well. I am also (slowly) looking into other options for pig tanks that would just bolt in and have a larger capacity. As information becomes available I will share it with you pig lovers.

I agree, the LRA tank sits a bit low. I really like Lance's design where the tank sits above the frame, but many folks are interested in hauling more fuel...

I found a couple poor pics below of the LRA tank on my rig. As you can see it sits below the frame a few inches (pic is before I installed the new rear bumper...) I'll snap better pics someday soon. :)

Oh, and I am planning a suspension lift to help out with departure angles and clearance issues, etc.

Thanks for the pix Lucy_FJ55. Now decisions, decisions. A Mid range tank in the $550 to $600 range would be perfect. Can you get right on that? (jk)

Keeps us posted on any options you come up with. If I go custom with a local source I'll get the volume discount $$ to see if a group buy is possible.

Tank

Here' s a couple of pic's of the tank, IPOR's replacing the fuel pump. I talked to Lance about building the tank for a group buy and he considering it. If he decides not to build it, the plan would be to send Jim (CruiserGuy) the spec's so he can have it built, If he has the time. I may have a answer tomorrow from IPOR

Lou, the name's Charles.

I wouldn't be building it, I'd source a shop here to have them built. The labor costs here are much less than in the states (maybe $15-20/day) but I wouldn't want them to design it therefore I have not proceeded to look for a shop yet. I need drawings before I go looking for a shop so we all know what is expected as the end product. I'd have a sample made first for my truck before making a run so we know what the quality will be.

I'll speak to Lance today about getting some cad drawings out.

Lou

You can let him know that I DO have access to AutoCAD LT 2000 so if it is in a compatible format we should be good to go. Lance should have my e-mail as I have e-mailed him before regarding this.

What happened to your pump?

Pump

The first pump got messed up from the rusty factory tank. So we built the new tank and installed a in tank pump from a FJ62 and I brought the truck home. It felt like it was starving for fuel so we put a high performance pump in and it work great for a month and started crying like a baby, so we increased fuel line size, using a different fuel filter and a new pump. This should solve the problem.

55 Fuel Tank Lines

I'm close to the point on my pig where the fuel tank is about to go back in. As I was checking out the fuel lines today, I can see where every line except the return line goes. Again, I see where all the 4 fuel seperator/vent lines go, where the big vent line goes, but where does the return line from the engine compartment goes. I see a hole next to the other holes into the left rear compartment but not where it hooks up?? Any help appreciated. It's a 73 by the way. Thanks

it might be the one that goes to the gas filler neck; it runs beside # 7 and goes through the "firewall" beside the other 4 that go to the fuel air separator unit......the fuel return from the engine bay IIRC returns to the front of the large filler spud at the tank......HTH;

Return Line

Lou,

I looked up the diagram on the Spector site and it looks like I have the set-up with the seperator. According to the diagram my return line hooks to the top of the seperator. I haven't looke to verify this is the case.

Thanks

connection from carb to fuel separartor

then you have this set up like in my 74 where was the separator outlet connects to the charcoal canister in the engine bay via a check valve # 40....HTH:cheers:

Well I think my tank is OK. I bypassed the diesel water separator and the problems went away so I'll be installing a new separator (original Toyota OEM in hand). I also have a BIG 50 gallon tank from "Pighead" that I'll be installing so I can't see myself making long range tanks unless I get several folks interested (and prepaid) in which case I'll simply have this big one copied with the addition of baffles if there are none.

Remember, IF I do make these tanks it will be in Guatemala with shipping from Guatemala to the US. My truck is in the 9/71 to 8/76 range so I would not be able to guarantee fit for other years.

I was able to make my early model '72 tank fit up to my '78 with just drilling four new holes. If you build the support flanges with 8 holes - four for the old style, four for the newer style you should be able to have a universal tank. You'd just take the largest number of vent holes required and provide caps for the used holes. A nice 36 gallon-ish tank with a bottom that angles up to the rear bumper with a skid plate would be the *#&%.

On another related note, anyone know where to get that rubber filler hose that connects the tank to filler neck identified as #7 in the diagram that Lou posted?
