What are yous guys usin' to replace the rubber connecting the gas filler tube to the tank in your LPBs? I gotta do dis soon.

Isn't that, like, only half as long? And without an elbow?

Honestly, I dunno. If it is, a section of aluminum pipe inbetween, and a coupla hose clamps, and voila. Try a big section or radiator hose...is that fuel safe?

Hey, now! That's the kindof thinking I was hoping for. I knew I was stuck inside the box...Thanks!

Oh, I have. This is what I came up with, and why I'm looking at alternatives:

"45 GAS FILLHOSE-1963-1967 FJ45 PU LWB(Discontinued-No longer available)"

This is what I'm looking at: 40 vs. 45PU

The 73-78 hose looks like it would fit. Or you could go down to the local auto parts store, most will have bulk lenths of fuel hose some are flexible hoses.

I also think the 73-78 would fit, but it ain't available, either. My NAPA doesn't have fuel hose that goes this big, at least, not in stock. I guess I had better ask. I just wondered if anyone had been successful at replacing theirs.

Dave-

Here is a pic of the '73 FJ40 Fuel Filler Hose.

That looks like it would work, although the angle is 45 degrees, not 90.

Anyone (Sniper :) ) got a spare one? SOR sez "Discontinued-No longer available" for the 73-78.

Maybe I could call James at cruiserparts.net.

This is a spare I have had laying around. I can send it up to you. Let me know.

That would be cool! Thanks verry mucho.

FYI,

I stopped in at Bow Wow, a VW shop in Boise, and got 6" of fuel filler hose that's the right I.D. for the 45. It doesn't have a bend in it but I was able to get it to work.

My tape finally gave out. I hadn't filled the tank since I put the top on...the fumes were killing me last week.

I always say, the mind is a terrible thing to lose.

A section of 4Runner hose (cut from the ~17" long factory piece) will work. I think the '84-89 4Runner is where my hose came from. I used this on a '65 Long bed FJ45. Any straight hoses I tried just kinked too badly or were the wrong dia.

I am pretty sure I used the 73-78 hose on mine too.

When I redid the aux tank plumbing on the 40, I was tired of the kink in the line where the hose passes under the standing seam of the wheelwell, so I welded two sections of tubing together at the angle needed to make the bend, then I was able to use straight hose on either side of the elbow to connect the filler neck and the tank.

I think this is gonna be a better long term option for all of us to consider.

Any chance you can post a picture of that, Mark?

Junkyard...possibly

The last time i went to the junkyard I saw all kinds of gas tanks with hoses attached to them in a large pile. Some of these look pretty new. All you really need is your hose and compare to the one you think will work. Just cut off what you don't need. Just an idea.;)
