LOL!

Yes. I have it scheduled for Wednesday. In the mean time I need to get the body back to my shop and back on the frame. (I took the pics above right after the clear flashed but before baking) I also need to seam seal the inside and bottom of the body tub, then undercoat the bottom.

Unfortunately, I also need a head gasket. I wasn't planning on it, it was just an unexpected surprise. :censor:

Note the crust leaking from the back of the head.

Fortunately for me I've had a lot of help with this project. Cam came by the paint shop yesterday (with lunch :D) and helped me finish sanding the body before Mike put color on it. I've been sanding on this thing for weeks. My fingers have been reduced to bloody stumps. I'm not sure if I would have finished it without the help. Thanks Cam!

Even more cool is Vince taking a day off from his new baby to replace the head gasket for me today. My daughter is 3 and she cried when I told her I was going to work "again." Instead of disappointing her Vince, Rich and Cam offered to take on the project. This is HUGE, thanks guys. I'll see you this afternoon when I get back from Richmond.

Lance,

Just out of morbid curiosity, any idea what this thing will weigh in at?

Love the color choice

Lance .. that's looks really nice .. just wondering if you have plans to use some kind of rhino lightning on it .. ? ( body floor .. ? )

I expect it will weigh as much as a fully outfitted 80. Maybe a little less. (6,000 lbs maybe?) Lightweight trucks are for wiennies. I wheel with 80's, my truck needs enough ass to pull one out in a pinch. EDIT 9-6-10: It weighed in at 5,500 lbs with driver and trail gear.

:p

Lance
PS - there were racecars at the paint shop that weighed less (fully assembled) than just the fzj40 body tub...

Yes, I'm having Line-X sprayed on Wednesday. I've tried Rhino, Speedliner, etc. I think Line-X works better for this application. It's tough without being so rough you skin knees on it.

Mines even further down the scale than that. Maybe the X model. Your truck is looking great by the way. Great color choice. I thought about that one, but the wife nixed it.

Project X downscale? Funny, but no... Speaking of scales, do you know what your truck weighs in at?

I was out at the shop tonight talking with the guys about this Moab trip and mentioned how portly the FZJ40 has become. I was sure I'd be the heaviest truck going out there, next to Rich's built 80 of course... but there is another truck heavier than mine... let's see, who could that be...

PS - Hey Ben, at least you won't have any camping gear weighing you down - that sleeping bag and bivy sack can't weigh much...

Roughly 4400 empty. 4150 without Ht and doors. Looking for under 4k with the 2UZ on the trail.

My Pig has you by 1k!

Lance be VERY careful putting line x on right after paint, it is know to pull the paint off when they take the tape off, something about the hot spray techinique they do. Norms paint came off after a year. just and FWI. Looks great, I would be more than proud to have you pull my heavy ass out of a whole. Remember mine is over 5300 lbs with no one in it!

The flares add 3" per side and while the tire still sticks out a little I'm well within the legal limit. The flare is made with a 1/4" back plane and 1/8" face. I did them this way so that if someone wanted to bolt a set on instead of welding they could just drill and tap the back side. I welded mine in. (or rather, I had "burn it in Beasley" do the panel warping for me- ha ha!)

Looking forward to seeing these fender flairs, good looking and functional.

Tell Cam he can send the sand in my tires back to Iraq. That should shave a few lbs.

~ Remember; Birfield Bearings in someones bumper might be fun for a weekend, but a Brook Trout stuffed in your buddies hubcap is fun all Summer!
