I did upgrade the bump stop and sway bar extension to the Slee units. I don't know if they are better but I really liked the look and the use of less bolts.

Many have asked how the rig looks from the rear. I finally got the Jerry can holder in from 4x4Labs and mounted my licence plate holder with some LED lights. I used Tech-wrap on the LED wiring as well. I need to fab some thing to lock the Jerry cans in. I will be mounting a rear view camera to the licence plate mount under the middle of the can rack.

Here is a updated pic of the front with the winch mount and I added some frame recovery points. The licence plate mount worked out perfectly and does not move even when blasting through rivers or water crossings.

I ended up buying a new Toyota drive shaft and still had problems because of the 3.5" lift. So I took my old one to Ron at Boulder drive line and had him fab up a CV for me with Toyota parts and U-joints. Came out great and no more vibs. Still need to set the angle but so much better.

The biggest news is the 80 is getting a engine upgrade on October 22nd. I bought a brand new 1FZ-FE from Robbie at Aventure Offroad. Robbie as many of you know is guru when it comes to Toyota engines. He built this one for a client a few years ago and the client decided to go with a diesel. This is a High Compression engine that makes about 70+ horse power than stock. It has all the bells and whistle done to it like porting and polishing and a CRIO treatment. It is the same motor Robbie runs in his 80. I want the thank the MUD member that sold this motor to me, You know how you are. I will post some pics once Robbie replaces the old seals and I get it painted up.

Is this a one-off thing or does he build-to-order?

He builds to meet your needs. I wanted a new motor with more power than my stock motor has. It will probably last another 100k but I wanted to replace it. I talked with Robbie for hours and we came to the decision that HC build was my best answer since I have a OBD1 80. This was the same motor he had in his shop for a few years that a Client had him build. He called the owner and we came to a price that worked for all three of us. These motors are not cheap and take a ton of man hours to build. I will not give the price I paid for the one sitting in his shop but will say I was very lucky. Please call Robbie if you need a engine built he is the best with 1FZ's for sure. He has also been very kind to me and all my questions.

I know the motor you bought it was sitting there done when I was working for him, you will be pleased with it for sure I have driven his 4.6 builds with port polish and there are super nice, I was more impressed with those then the super charged ones I have driven

Thanks that make me feel a little better on spending more on the engine than I paid for the 80 itself. I have tried to buy only the best since I will have this rig to I die.

How 'bout stroked and supercharged...

Super charger just doesn't impress me plus my truck is obd1 like the poster of this thread, in my opinion they just take up more room and more stuff to pull, the 4.6 port polish is nice and good enough for me, I'm sure with it super charged be nice, but I like cheap gas.
@BerettaMato if you for some reason don't like it and go to v8 I'd buy the engine no problem, I'll even come pull it all out no charge:) but I think you'll be more then happy enjoy!

Once you go boosted, it's addictive. If I ever feel real secure with retirement money, I'm getting a GTR with some extras.

I am not a fan of superchargers. Overlanding you will come across bad gas and you can lose a motor. Plus you cut your engine life down.

Went over to Tim's of Gamiviti and he helped me fixed the broken passenger seat. Works awesome now Wife is very happy. Thanks Tim. Great products.

Took the girls out on a adventure by Coney Flats. They had a great time chasing grouse and swimming.

The rear if using the slinky bump stop will limit up travel more than required.

You could use your std bump stop with the slee set up if you want.

I was rubbing the frame pretty bad. Giving this a try if there are no problems I will put a set of 80s on and see how that works. I really have not been able to push the flexing till I get slides on. Thanks for the info I will let you know which one works the best.
