Hey everyone,

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered. I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything specific to the 470.

Anyway, I've been experiencing some rattling/buzzing in my front door panels when I crank my music to 11. I checked the speakers and they all seem fine (ML). I think the noise is coming from the (poorly designed IMO) window control panels. Does anyone else experience this? Is there a fix?

Thanks!

On my gx470, the foam ring on my front speakers and on the rear subwoofer was loose and detached from speaker housing. Subwoofer rattled pretty bad.

I ordered a replacement subwoofer foam ring and glue from eBay for $18. Replaced myself. YouTube videos available for the repair itself.

I'm noticing some rattles in mine in certain mid-range frequencies, too. I might have a similar problem - be sure to update when you fix it!

Thanks guys, my speakers don't seem to have any visible wear. The front speakers in both doors were replaced under warranty about 10k miles ago. The sound is good and the bass is strong. Something in my plastic door cards is vibrating at certain frequencies.

I'm going to dig into them again this weekend. I found a Club Lexus thread where a guy put some felt inside the door card, under his window switches to stop them from buzzing. I think this is similar to my problem.

Digging up an old thread here but did you ever solve it? Mine is doing the same thing. I doubt it’s the speakers (though when I did my rear fold down table I noticed the foam around the small speakers fell off). My rattling is also coming from the front doors at certain low to mid frequencies. When I press near the door latches it gets better. Speakers don’t sound blown at all. Certain songs it’s honestly unbearable unless I turn up the music so loud that I can’t notice it. Did you ever try any felt or foam underneath the panel?

I had rattling in my driver door during louder music, it was driving my crazy. I thought I was going to have to replce my speakers.I pushed on a few placed and determined it was a tiny plastic insert right behind me door latch/handle on the inside. Push on the tiny plastic peice a litte and see if that helps stop the rattle. solved mine.

Thanks for the reply. Which tiny plastic piece are you talking about? I’ve pushed near the handle a bunch and it stops momentarily when pressure is applied, but then starts again. I’m hoping it’s the same problem as you as it sounds like it’s coming from the same location.

Edit: is it the tiny plastic piece behind the latch that covers the door screws?

Yes, it's that tiny piece. Perhaps pry it out and stick a small paper towel piece behind and out it back. 🤷‍♂️. I had another loud rattle today in that area and it was a bunch of stuff in the door pocket vibrating. Is your door pocket empty?

It's happening this week....... Or next🤷‍♂️

Dang rear shocks need rebuilt and there's a 2 week backlog everywhere here, so I have to put stock 4runner shocks on for now...... No wheeling until those are installed, but will make a nice mall crawler until then

Gonna try that tomorrow. There’s nothing in the pockets, but when there is it definitely makes things way worse. I kind of think mine is a larger piece rattling than the little plastic screw cover but I hope that’s it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Mine does the same thing. Speakers recently re-foamed/re-glued. When i press my knee/hand on the door card the rattling stops. Will try your suggestions, thanks guys/gals!

Hey, nope I never did dig into the doors. Mine still does it from time to time. I have two loud kids now, so the buzzing doesn't bother me anymore :P

Could be the little door card tabs vibrating. The white clips that hold the door panel on.
If the little plastic clip doesn’t do anything I’ll take off the panel and inspect those. I feel like it would only be those if one was loose or out of the hole, and since I’m rattling on both the driver and passenger door I feel like it may be something else. You could be right though. It’s weird though because I swear when I got the GX nothing rattled. I haven’t done any work on the doors except replace the window trim on the outside.

Something could have fallen down inside. But the speakers could be old and shredded and need new foam.🤷‍♂️ Or a loose or missing clip causing a gap somewhere

Yeah I don’t think something fell as both sides are doing it, but it’s definitely possible. I could see the foam being missing potentially making it worse as the foam around my rear hatch speakers were off when I did my fold down table. Hopefully will get to the bottom of it today. Thanks for the suggestions.

The foam around the back hatch speakers is different. We're talking about the rubber seal circle around the whole speaker that deteriorates. You may have to get a speaker repair kit to re (foam) rubber them. The foam in the back hatch is just a barrier between the speaker and back plastic panel.

Something like this but need right size:

Good to know, if they look bad I’ll look into getting those. I came across this video which explains getting rid of door rattles. If the problems not easily solvable I’ll probably end up doing this. Rattles aside, I think it would help road noise greatly as well.
