Geez, wonder if the bushings (or lack of) on my front diff are what might be causing my clunk? 🤔

Is replacing that front diff bushing/arm a one banana job?

The one that’s integrated into the cover is not a fun job. The other two is easy-peasy (if you buy the arms with the bushings already in them)

I find rack bushing very bad on one side that's wet with oil, and not so bad on dry side. So yes oil will do this if it constantly soaking the rubber bushing.

I can't see the cup, is grim hiding it? I'll bet (if it's there) it will come out so easy. You may set a record for removal..

Honestly the bottom bushing looks like it'll slide right out. I was prepared to do lots of chiseling.

Was considering replacing Both of these.... 21 and 22... Easy diy?

Out with the old, practically non-existent front diff bushings, in with the new. Clunk is all but gone, still a little clunk when shifting from P-R-D, but clunk while getting on/off the throttle is gone. Only did front diff bushings and top stopper bushing on the arm behind the front diff though. Might do the rest of the diff support bushings in the near future which I suspect will further eliminate the clunk when shifting from P-R-D.

Overall, SO worth doing. If you've got the clunk definitely check those bushings and replace em if necessary.

@heymarv did you do while on the truck or did you pull diff housing off and do on the work bench?

On the truck. Had help from neighbor with the right tools, mainly the tool to press in bottom bearing, otherwise it was fast. Just under an hour.

Had to use a chisel to get bottom bushing out but hammering around the rim of it got it out without too much fuss. The stopper bushings up top are easy.
