Front Axle Rebuild (ugh)

I guess I need to rebuild my knuckles on my 9/74 Fj40. I remember grease on the shoes way back then.

So, can anyone offer a reputable place to order a rebuild kit? there are so many vendors maybe you guys that have recently gone through this process can provide me with some much needed wisdom.

I certainly don't look forward to it, but it is what it is...thanks!

I did cruiseroutfit and Marlin seals a couple of yrs ago. I'm happy with the results.

I have 2.. an original 1st copy of Chilton dated 1974.. and another paper Haynes 1977.. but your point is well taken.. I think JohnnyC has a link.. I will see if it has any info I don’t have.. strong believer that one cannot have enough data.. that’s what I do..

so, I'm cleaning up this hub and notice a stud broken off right at the top of the hole. I then looked at the others and sure enough right across there was one broken off half way down . Gosh I literally drilling and tapping broken studs/bolts....just hard for me. But anyway, I did get two holed centered fairly well, so as I was drilling the first one, I noticed the broken off stud was rotating along with the drill bit...hunh? Sure enough the drill bit actually pulled it straight out of the hole and there were no threads on it. The other one was the same way. Also, I thought I would take a small punch and clean out the holes, but weirdly each hole feels like there is a piece of rubber at the bottom....So, can you seasoned mud heads can enlighten me on what this is and especially what to do about replacing whatever these buggers are.............Thanks in advance
