Kevin,

Can you get a gas chopsaw for the vehicle/s? Since it doesn't seem that we'll have winches available I'd like to get something out there to remove what we can

BMAN,
I have an 18 volt sawzall and four batteries. It won't get us far, but I can bring it.

IMPORTANT NOTE!

BE SURE YOU EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST SATURDAY MORNING AS LUNCH WILL NOT BE UNTIL 12:30 or 1:00PM

A slightly later lunch will ensure that we will have a solid 3 to 4 hours of cleanup time to get as much done as we can.

I will be picking up a ton more dogs and snacks for lunch. Yldbill (who will not be attending) has also donated a whole bunch of elk to be cooked up as needed.

I will also be cooking up a batch of cracker cakes on Sunday morning for those who stay the night.

Please do! I'll have my power inverter to charge batteries with as needed. Bring extra blades too!

I won't be able to bring my utility trailer since I'm picking up another trailer at the AZ/NM border on Sunday.

(not that it was ever requested I bring it...?)

Anyways...I've seen that other people are bringing trailers to haul larger items and tools to chop up big stuff into smaller more manageable pieces.

Should we bring anything besides our work gloves?

Howdy! Yea, I like using the long handled pick it up/grabber thingamajigs. It gives you 3 feet more reach thru the bushes and cacti. John

I have determined the pullout time to be 7 AM, yet to be confirmed by the team.

Just talked to Maureen, the team is staying in Payson, we will be meeting them there, so pullout from Baja is 7 AM.

Map to the Baja/Conoco gas station for those who want to caravan from the east valley.

oneleglance and others not on the east side,,,, i drive in through camp verde is a good one, the fossil springs road is clearly marked and you wont need to worry about looking for the camp/meet area until you pass the turnoff for childs, also clearly marked. if you get to a skinny concrete bridge over a creek you want a bit to far, from that bridge a little west, couple hundred yards maybe?? is the camp spot on the south side of the road through a gate that is more like just a break in the fence if i remember right. the camp spot is an easy to see clearing that extends into the verde trees.

Ok cool....
I am 50/50 on if I will go to BA'JA @7am to meet and convoy up 87 or take I-17 N thru camp verde
I am 40th st & mcdowell so an even shot either way.
Thanks for the info and it looked pretty easy on google earth from I-17....also looks like some fun coming back on dirt roads on childs power rd down to dugus? and into cave creek or something like that....would make an interesting sat late afternoon return trip

the dirt tracks down and into cave creek are 2wd, a little bumpy and very sceninc,,, you have to cross the verde at childs. i have only been able to cross 3 times over the pass 20 odd years. every time i go up there i put the pig in the water to check and all but those 3 times i hit a deep channel that just about covers my headlights so i back out. it would be a knee deep crossing if that channel wasnt there. and before anybody says it (spike) i have tied. problem is for some reason my pig starts to float when i get up near the door handles (4FT'ish) and i just have to sit there and let the water come in to weight me down to keep driving.

We're scratching the plans for vehicle removal. It seems that the Verde Valley 4Wheelers will be removing these vehicles next week. They've done multiple extractions with this FS group and have everything they'll need to do it. This is OK with me as it will simply give us more man power in the trash department. The FS reps will meet us at the camp site around 9 am Saturday to help out and haul whatever trash we collect.

See you all there!

Rob, Please bring the saw and batteries anyway as we may need them for breaking down other bulky junk.

LOL, I'm the last guy to push someone to go through deep water. I hate water. IMO it's the fastest and easiest way to screw up your entire rig. :D

So what is the meeting time we should shoot for at the camp site tomorrow?

well guys it is almost midnight and I am 1/2 thru my shift covering for a sick call...
sooo I am out for the clean up...and that sux because this is the kind of thing I am really interested in as a way to pay back for all the fun I have.
Not to mention it would be nice to meet up with you guys again since I am new around here.
Have fun and stay safe picking up stuff around all the snakes & scorp's...just cuz I work at the poison hospital for the area doesn't mean I need to see any of you that bad :)
