The meet is the next week, on the 21st.
Howdy! That works for me, DUH! I never looked at the calender, but I did look at the FJ Team homepage that says they are meeting with us Friday Night, before the cleanup project, so I made the assumption that was the monthly meeting at Sonic. Silly me. But I am still interested if anyone is going up on Friday? John

My former 4x and its family, plus my present Cruiser and my own family are thinking about a campout on that weekend at Fossil creek. My last truck is a shortback Montero. It's a good, solid little truck that is well-proven with 290,000 miles on its clock, much of it off-road. It is a great little truck. My friend owns it now. He wants to attend and help out.
We can bring a 4x8 trailer to help haul back trash. We will dump it at the Prescott landfill transfer station on our company dime.
My friend is new to the off-road trail game. Can we help him out with a few tips? I am more familiar with a Montero than I am with a Cruiser, so I could use a few tips myself. My 80 is not familiar to me. It is bigger and more capable than the smaller truck ever was. I still don't know how to use it right. I could use some help here.
I will do my best to be an example. If I can make the meet I will bite the bullet and take some instruction. I am ready. Tell me where to meet up.

John,
There might have been a little swail there from a small "wash" but I don't remember it being of much concern. The van should be alright, but that's what straps are for anyway.

John, it was only hard on you because you broke a 6" branch off a
mesquite tree on the way out.:eek:

Otherwise the road is pretty easy.

Yea, :othat reminds me, I better bring a chain saw to destroy the evidence!! At least we will have plenty of logs:idea: for the camp fire.:grinpimp: John

The plan for Saturday at this point is to meet at 9AM at the camp spot and start from there. The FS has a trailer to haul one vehicle out. We will need two vehicles wth winches to pull and move the vehicle. Not sure who has winches that is planning on being there. I won't be bringing the 40 so I do not have one available for this run.

Speak up if you've got a winch.

Its going to a warm one....Fossil Springs is roughly the same elevation as Camp Verde 3300'. Weekend temps 99* high and 70* low

Sunday we will be hiking down to the falls if anyone is interested. Its about a mile hike with little to no elevation gain. The trail starts just up the road about 2 miles from the camp site.

Talked to Maureen this morning, they are going to camp and want to do a trail run on the way out on Sunday. They will also host lunch on Sunday. I'm thinking something moderately difficult ~3 and relatively short so we can be done by ~2PM?

Is there any more info on the Sunday run for those who can't make it out there on Saturday?

Im in just for the Saturday fun - Sunday I'm running to the NM border to pick up a military trailer (a day late, yes...but it will give me another fun monster project..)

Kevin,

Can you get a gas chopsaw for the vehicle/s? Since it doesn't seem that we'll have winches available I'd like to get something out there to remove what we can.

We'll be there with a 9000 lb winch 85 ft line - 50 ft extension - snatch block - tree strap - tow strap - and the Tacoma...

The diesel lives, after much driveline work... So I'm in with the HJ60, to arrive on Saturday morning...

I'll be coming from Prescott after taking a moving load to our new place up there. So, I'll also have our 1-ton 4x8 open trailer. It's heavy duty, and has good clearance. I'll plan on bringing it along, unless I hear it's not needed before Thursday afternoon, when we head north.

Still not quite clear on the exact location of the meeting location at this infamous "camp spot" (not having been up there before...), or the basic directions for getting in there. The link BMan posted has either expired, or my computer didn't like it... All I got was the main WindowsLive search page... no map.

Help! :D

Tom
