It looks like its running in the second pic. That's a good thing :D

What are you wanting to do with the 40? How much work are you willing to do? What motor/tranny do you want?

Without knowing things like that it is kinda hard to recommend anything.

My son has more mechanical knowledge than myself. I am willing to put in a decent amount of sweat equity. We want a general off-road rig - not a show piece. Something for fun, not serious rock crawling. Thanks in advance.

Well, I'll guess 1973+\- a year.

My first reaction is the truck is rough, but really not too bad. I think $2500 is excessive, by 2x. There really are not enough pics to make a good determination. Observations:

  • Rust appears mostly to be surface. There is some cancer on the right rocker toward the rear.
  • Passanger side running board looks new.
  • Doors don't seem to match the body, which don't seem to match the top.
  • Passanger door looks bent on top.
  • I see rust on the frame in the front. The rear part of the frame looks good.
  • The inside is real rough, but I don't see anything too major. Dash pad is toast.
  • Roll bar is not OEM.
  • There are no hood hooks and the hood is held down by bailing wire.
  • There is no windshield hinge on the passanger side.
  • The sticks in the engine tell me it hasn't seen too much use.
  • It doesn't look like the passanger seat is bolted down and it's just sitting on the gas tank. The seat frame is missing.
  • There is a little extra drilling done on the windshield frame, drivers side.
  • Windshield hold-downs on hood are missing.

Thanks Jon, ya, he had admitted to a lot of that and I know that it was mostly a lot of work to get it looking good - You caught some things he didn't list. I was mostly curious about if it was worth what he was asking, or even close to it - and as it sounds - he's off by a bunch. Thanks for taking time. I will keep looking.

Hello,

I have a couple of toyotas for sale: The first one is a 1981 Toyota Trekker, Precursor to 4Runner, runs well, solid axle, many new parts asking 1900. Also, 1972 FJ40, chevy V8 conversion, runs, but needs work, 2900.

Both are in Las Cruces, NM and are posted on Craigslist.org in Las Cruces.

Thanks

Tomas K.

Paul,

You might look into these. Pics don't tell much, but they have potential.

Anyone ever seen pics of a "Trekker"?

I had a coworker with one in California.

Craigslist ad:

Okay here is the deal. Two toyota FJ40 landcruisers for sale. I bought both of these with the intent on fixing one up and using the other for parts. I have no time now and it is a waste just having them both sitting around. I don't have titles to either one. I have had them checked through DMV and they are not stolen. Neither one of them is in running condition. WIll post photos later. 505-263-9323 1300 or best offer.

I bought my first Toyota in '90. That is the first time that I've seen or even heard of a Trekker. Somehow, I don't think that one is stock but it sure looks nice.

Thanks!

I knew they were made in '82 and '83, but I didn't know about '81. There's one parked at the muffler shop next door to Discount Tire on Alameda just before it goes up the hill into Rio Rancho.

I also went on a run with one, with Grant and Robbie, back about ... 6 years ago - up La Bajada hill. I forget the guy's name...

I've always wondered if posting "for sales" on the website was worth it. I found out last week that a coworker had his wife's FJ40 listed. It was actually listed by another family member, and he didn't realize I handled the listing, both on the website and here. It sold rather quickly to somebody not in this group ... or at least not somebody I know.

In the Journal:

TIRES/RIMS, 4 BFG all terrain LT-315/75R16, 5-spoke aluminum 8 lug. Good condition. $400 for all. 299-0715
Tires/Wheels First Printed (Sun 01/13/08)

I think the worth is that it is mostly free. Just takes a little time to post, but then you are set :D

I have no time now and it is a waste just having them both sitting around. I don't have titles to either one. I have had them checked through DMV and THEY ARE NOT STOLEN I have the certified VIN inspector paperwork that shows that the vehicles are eligible to apply for bonded titles ON BOTH VEHICLES. Neither one of them is in running condition.(SEE PRIOR POSTINGS FOR PHOTOS) The 1964 is the one in the top photos and is the most complete it has the 1F motor but a good possibility that it is seized. It is the one that I planned on fixing and using the other for the parts vehicle. The 64 has a full set of 5 tires 31x10.50 in excellent condition and it has the Warn locking hubs on the front. The drivers side rear brake drum is rusted to brake shoe on the 64. $800 firm for both. The vehicles can be seen one mile west of moriarty on the south side of the interstate. 505-263-9323
