Anyone have luck with removing the cats and hooking up the electronic deal that fools the OBDII second emissions 02 sensor? If so, where should I get this thing-a-ma-jig?

Yes, but the rear sensor kicks out a code if unplugged or the cats are gone. Ok, so a simulator. Anyone have a good source?

You can make one for about $15 in parts from radio shack. Otherwise I can make you one for a price.

Got a schematic?

I was wondering how one could accomplish this a few days ago, so thanks OP.

I thought I read somewhere that the signal from the 2nd one had to swing less than the 1st one so it "knew" the cat was reducing O2. I was wondering if a simple resistor divider would work well enough. Make the 2nd one track the first one by 50% or whatever it needs.

Also, would this show up on diagnostic equipment such that an operator or tester could tell you had modified your system? Just wonderin'... :wrench:

No one would know. It simply replicates the slow oscillating signal the rear O2 should produce behind a cat. I ziptied my sim by the ECM, snipped the OXY2 wire and wired it in. Rear O2 needs to still be hooked up. You can zip tie it out of the way. Otherwise I think a 20watt 20ohm resistor would work in place of the actual O2 sensor if/when it ever dies. The ECU still checks the heater circuit so you can't just remove it all together.

Thanks lilevo!!
Looks very easy to build.
Mine has thrown p0420 twice now in the first 750 miles of her new life. First at 75 miles, just after a successful E-Test [whew!], and second at probably 500 miles during a long slow run at about 40 on the level.
I have the Ultra Gauge and need to watch those numbers more often maybe. I'm sure those 0 to 0.8 voltages mean something. What am I looking for?

anyone else with success with a simulator? advice

I have an O2 sim ready to ship for $75. It has two LED's so you can verify operation.

Same one I made and am using in my truck. Mounted right by the ECU, tap in power, ground, and cut the OXY2 wire. Solder the output wire of the O2 sim to the wire you cut going into the ECU. No CEL.

I sell a few at my store that I have personally installed on 80s and many other Toyotas. Just install it on the second sensor and you can completely remove the cats. No cel
