Did u ever Get the front bumper "finished"

really like the looks of your rig

awesome rig! Looking into doing coils and 80 axles for mine in the near future. great info!

Well I got the lockers finished.....I used the ecu from the 80 plus all the connectors and just made my own harness. I followed the wiring diagram from an 80 series book I've got. While not hard to figure out, it certainly was time consuming. When it comes to wiring, Im a little ocd so every splice was soldered and shrink wrapped then routed. Ive never really liked wiring work but Im certainly getting better. Ill post some pics when Im home next.
I ended up buying some little 12v leds to use as the indicator lights. I gotta admit, its pretty cool have the lights flash then go solid just like the do in the 80. One issue I came across was that I rebuilt the lockers when I was doing the swap so the motors were not lined up right. Once the front locker locked it wouldn't unlock till I pulled it off and realigned it, rear was opposite as well. Easy fix though.

Front bumper is still not 'finished'. The main part is done for now, and Ill get to the tube work sooner or later. Im kinda thinking of redoing it a little. For some reason I keep thinking I should have made it bolt on instead of welded on. :meh:

Thanks for watching and the compliments, helps keep me motivated.
If you want any pictures of a specific part let me know.

pics coming soon

Good choice. Don't worry about getting the whole harness. Just cut at the ECU and splice in 6-wire (combine the two grounds) trailer wiring to each diff and splice them to the factory diff harnesses. I've done this for the rear locker I added to my 4Runner and I've worked with the 80 diffs as well and it's not too difficult of a job when you've got the ECU and when someone's already figured out all the wiring and made up a schematic for ya.

And for fun, my old 60 a few months before parting her out and a few years earlier right after the SOA. Again, I love the black steelies, but I like the alloy 80s wheels much better.

Nice looking truck....why was it parted?

Too high maintenance (mostly caused by me...) for the poor wandering nomad that I was...at least I thought so at the time. In hind-sight, I shoulda/coulda just parked it at my parents place and moved on with life for a while. I parted it out in end of 2004. I've been wishin now for the past couple years now that I didn't... :( Oh well.

Ok Im trying to ignore the voices in my head but its hard.....:crybaby:

Where and or how would be the best way to score a whole 80's suspension for cheap with lockers ?:D:flipoff2::flipoff2:

Buy a whole truck with a bad motor. That's what I did anyway. Whats funny is that you can find 80 parts all over my truck if you knew where to look:hillbilly:
Since we have another 80 it really is nice to have a parts truck sitting there. If I remember right, it was about $1500. We'd planned on parting it out but just havnt had time. I think what Ill do when the time comes is pull off al usable parts and sell what I can, then cut up the rest and off it will go:meh:.

I've seen a few 80's for cheap but none with lockers...
not that I need them but would be nice to have from factory
i'll keep looking...

How yah come about getting the one with the bad engine?

well did u ever finish the front bumper? its gunna be real hard for me to copy it if I dont know what it looks like

This is as far as I've gotten. (Poor pictures I know). I've just had other priorities lately. One day Ill finish it off.

I guess I'll hafta leave some to my creativity. I love your rig though regardless of the unfinished front bumper. I personally think it looked better with the XML's but hey, sence u got rid of them I won't be copying u any more. :hillbilly:

Wow, $12.5k....that's gonna be a quick sale. Id be all over that if I were looking for another wagon.

Nice!

Boo, you should keep her.

Good luck in your future endeavors!

Late in the game those XML's came off and were sold to "Metcalf" on Expo, who ran them on his first gen CTD 4x4. No idea what they were replaced with.
