I really like this bumper a lot on your rig, and depending on how you wheel your hoops might come in handy but I think simple is better and if you only added the short hoop over the winch I think it would be "tight" yo.

I even think it's bitchin the way it is, simple, functional and original.

man this truck is absolutley stunning. no offense but I do not care for the 38's. I think the 37's are going to really set this truck off and give you some great articulation.

The bumper is a nother peice of art. The lines really look good.

I dig the tube mock up as well. Should hold up well taking out cows deer elk etc...at speed!!

IAFF??? What local brother?

X2 on the mock up.
Hell of a rig man.
Keep Cruisin

Thanks! I'm thinking the same as you witht the 37's. I think I got a little too excited when I found these XMLs and couldn't help my self. I do like how they look but 37s might 'fit' a bit better.
That sticker is in support of my brother. San Bernardino City.

So how much would you charge me to make a bumper EXACTLY like that?

So I kind of forgot to update this thread. Its been a while. The truck is running great, and Im completely happy with the suspension.
It was nice meeting a couple of you at Surf N Turf. Ill post more photos later.

Update....I need some help!
As you know, my 60 has a '96 5.7 Vortec motor in it, been that way for about 10 years now. Anyway, I just recently developed a problem with my alternator. First one burned up pretty good, melted that back case. I figured it was just old and its time had come. Well, I've now been through 3 Kragen alternators and they keep failing. The first one I put one showed no charge, as soon as it went on. Took it back got a new one, this one charged for around 40 miles, stared the truck the next morning.. no charge. Third one, lasted for around 80 miles and several startup/shutdowns, until this morning... no charge.
I've tested the ignition wire that plugs in to the alternator and its showing 12v. All other wires in good condition. My local auto parts guy, who tested one the the alts, mentioned that his tester warns to not let the ignition switch stay hot for more than three seconds. He think that it should be the same in the truck, but my wiring diagram show the hot coming straight off a 12v fuse block, theres now way the voltage could drop after 3sec. Any ideas???:crybaby:

Just a few notes about transfer case gear ratios (split cases)...

The earlier 4 speeds 1981, 1982 - came with a 2.276 ratio

The early 5 speeds were about 1.959, until the later production years that were 2.295 (have not counted teeth on these ones yet to verify).

The Automatics (eg: A440F from a 1989 BJ74) have a 2.295 ratio.

I have not ever seen the 2.48 ratio in a split case (yet). I believe this is the ratio in the 80 series case, and not the split case.

I have installed Mark's Gears in my BJ74 and the 3.05 really makes a substantial difference to low range crawling.

Hey if you get your ALT issue solved how about emailing me or PM me with the solution, if you don't mind. I have a 1999 5.7 Vortec in my 60. RIght now I'm running a single wire CS140 ALT.. I would like to go to the stock type CS 130 or CS140...just for parts reasons..but I never was clear on the wiring aspect.. "what exact wires from the toyota harness go to what plugs on teh GM alternator"... I let the smoke out of the fusable link and got in a hurry and then just went with teh single wire Alt.

Assume you have to compensate with some large guage wires for hte GM alt as you most lily have doubled the Amps of the ALT by switching to the GM version.

What year fj80 was the donor for the suspension swap ?
I take it you used the 80's axle.
How many inches did you end up gaining and does it ride at hwy speeds ?

How many banana's would say this is?? 10, 8, 20 ?

Great looking rig....

Well I got the alternator figured out. Turns out, I had too many amps going into the alternator. I ended up using a resistor wire so I still had 12 volts but much less amps.

The donor 80 was a '95, the rest of it is still sitting outside. Yeah, I used all the stock 80 parts I could, just to keep it simple.
The ride is miles ahead of what it ever was on leaf springs, and I went through a lot of different springs( stock, stock with aal, lift springs, soa, soa with lift springs, ect.) I'm loving how its working. 85mph on the freeway feels smooth and well behaved(keep in mind it's a 25 year old truck so its still not as quite and comfortable as an 80 but it's got a ton more style and its a lot more fun.
How many inches did I gain??? In what direction?

For me, the swap turned out being easier than I expected, and could have been easier still. I think if you have some decent wrenching, welding, mechanical skills this shouldnt be more than a 5:banana: job. The biggest thing for me was finding the time, it defiantly requires some serious time in the garage.

Ill get some more pictures up before long....
