Cows/calves, sheep/lambs, horses/mules, or camels carried in the bed in its previous life? Tailgate suggests it was interesting in the least.

Unfortunately haven’t been able to find out much about it. To the best of my knowledge she’s from 1970.

From what I have been told this vehicle lived it’s whole life in Kaikōura, New Zealand. I bought it from someone who purchased the vehicle from the first owner and had the intention of restoring her but never ended up doing so. Now I have the vehicle in Marlborough, New Zealand and I intend to restore her to her former glory.

Not the tidiest specimen around, but she runs and drives. It’s a bit of a dream coming true.

I just purchased this truck from my friend, @Cirbo. Bobbed bed. 6.0 LS swapped. H42, Orion, Ranger OD, lockers. Lots of good stuff went into this one.

These always seem to have some VIN anomaly. I have a '63 titled as a '64, most likely because by the time the boat ride and wait in the Port of Long Beach was over it was later the following year. Did they even make swb Ute's in that year? I am not sure they were. Do you have the old Aussie title?
So. I'm finding that my 82 is in fact a 12.83 truck. Not sure why they would do that unless it was to avoid as much taxes.
It's really interesting .

What’s the back story with this one?

Basically a barn find. I just bought it last month. Was told it spent its life on a ranch near Aspen, CO and had been bought by the rancher in 1972. Dont know the history between 1965-1972. Also told by PO that it sat in the barn for 20+ years as well till I bought it thru a local fella who had it for only a month before I came along.
It has a full drive-train swap from a 1986 FJ60 to include the engine, tranny, tcase and axles. Power steering and Disc brakes of course were brought along with the swap as well. Interestingly enough they also brought along the front and rear anti-sway bars. Runs and drives very nicely. Strong engine. Drive-train swap was done very well. Front springs were out-boarded a bit crudely though. I already have a new 4" HFS spring set to go under it and I will clean up some of those items along the way.
I like the patina look with how the rancher had spray painted over the factory paint but I am sure I will do another frame-off restoration on it before too long anyhow and make it all like new again.
Attached are some pics of a couple of my other 40's that have received the full frame-off treatment in my shop.

I didn't know they made a short bed in 65. This one has what looks like a 65 cab with folding windshield and rear quarter windows, and an appropriate VIN for 65.
And the bed is a short bed bed.

I think the wheelbase on my 62 short bed fixed cab was about 104 inches. What's yours?

That sounds right, from what I remember it was around that 104 measurement.

IIRC the short bed removable top’d 45s have a slightly shorter bed than the short bed fixed top’d 45s because of the longer cab in the former and both having the same overall length. An electric 45, totally tripendicular!

@CruiserFanatic welcome to the group! I’m glad you found your way over here! I hope you will start a build thread and keep us all updated. Be sure to give us the back story, any history you found from the previous owner, where you found it, etc. We all love following along on the journey.

@middlecalf you’re correct. The SWB removable top 45’s are also the rarest version of the 4 different US Spec Import 45’s. If memory serves me correctly it also shares the same frame with an LV at 104”. But my synapses could just be misfiring…it’s been a long day.
