I'm curious as to what year fj40 this would actually fit. I've not seen one with a non round grommet where it enters/exits the firewall.

Just as he showed above, FJ4X European or General countries from 01/75 to 06/80. Not OEM for North American models.

The shown application year is not correct. This wiring harness is periods correct for FJ40s between 1979 and 1980. It can not be fitted to pre-1979s as is, unless the oval shape grommets are changed (still will not be period correct).
Greg - it will fit your 1982 as well but I have shows you the NOS one for your model as well.

As @FJ40GURU mentioned this harness fit ( 1979/01 -- 1980/07 ) as per GCC specification and shown attached , but I list Toyodiy fitment in case if it’s fit to other countries specifications

No worries. My wiring harness is in decent shape but thought I would ask. My FJ45 will hopefully be on a ship next week. Wanted to buy a 43 while I was in KSA but couldn't find one in very good condition.

FJ43 is highly desirable in KSA , you can’t find it in good condition unless if it’s fully restored and the price will be too expensive.
