Hey guys, I recently blew out the tires the previous owner left on my cruiser. They're 33x12.5r15 BFGs. Because the (moron) didn't put a lift on it the tires were regularly rubbing.

I'm looking to get tires that preform pretty well in snow (snowy roads are common here in Utah especially where I'm a snowboarder) and would therefore like to get fairly narrow tread tires.

I'm having a devil of a time finding 33x9.5r15s anywhere. Are they sold anymore? Is there anywhere I can go for tires of that form factor? If not, what should I look into instead knowing that I really want to avoid any rubbing, go off roading in the summer but boarding in the winter and would like to be able to hit more than 60 on the highway.

Did you do a search? Probably a thousand threads that answer this exact question. Short answer, no 33 9.50's anywhere, 33 10.50 is the majority opinion unless you can score some 16" wheels. Then the possibilities multiply.

Score some 16" wheels? Is it particularly hard to find 16" wheels that fit correctly on the FJ40?

if you are running 33's you must have at least about a 2" lift or your rear quarters would be destroyed and tires would have shredded after about 5 miles. wider than 10.5s and you def need spacers in the front. my idiot PO slapped on brand new 35x12.5 with a 2.5" lift. rubbed everywhere, they came off immediately and i have 33x10.5's BFG at's. they rub on the drag link when turned all the way left, but really only when parallel parking. i have yet to adjust the steering stops which will fix that but make my turn radius larger, oh well.

if you somehow have no lift, 31's are your tallest option.

I've got one extra new BFG AT and two fairly new ones on the front of my '78. Wish I could find one more.

well the good news is i have a new one as my spare... and in XXX years when my four are in need of changing i'll remember that you need one! I'll be moving to sacramento in February too!

I lost one from my set earlier this year and have decided not to run my spare, but to sell the three [the spare is really JUST a spare] I gotta remember to take some pics and put 'em up for sale. I'm sticking with the 16" for now [have three sets of those]

You can call me if you're interested. Or just wait until I post them in the classifieds. Please don't PM me. Mark

antFJ - what size and brand of tire do you have on the image attached? They look like exactly what I'm trying to find.

Ahhh yes I missed the SxS UTV designation...

Yeah, there's a bunch that came out recently in the perfect size for 40's. I got excited when I first found the toyo M/T's in 32x9.50r15. Seems like if they have the molds, they could make some road legal. They're missing out on an eager market!

Just an FYI, I inquired with Kenda about the weight of the tires, & availability at present, because they always seem to be short on stock since their introduction last fall.
I very promptly received an email from Kenda:

"The weight of this tire is 50.24 lbs. The tires are in production and shipping to our nationwide distributors. However, demand has been high recently and supply chain issues have slowed down some shipments. So, stock may vary depending on availability in your area."

AFAIK, 4link suspensions are not street legal either. :meh:
IOW, it wouldn’t stop me from trying them, if thats what I wanted to do. The tires I drove into DV last fall on were 17 years old. :hillbilly:
