Did removing leafs change ride height any?

It’s not dramatic with a OME pack because they use more leafs/less arch

They will settle faster with less leafs. You can always add them back.

This OME kit on my 42 is from early 2000 , very soft and good shackles angle after 20 years of driving .

One of the short rear leaf was remove for the first 10 year , i carry more stuff than the PO so i put it back on in 2015

You can see the shackles on the "flex"pic , the angle of the unload side look better than what we see now (on level ground ) , maybe they change the specs on the spring length

I am running 2" Skyjacker soft ride springs with Bilstein shocks up front and very soft KYB shocks in back (Toyota T100 shocks made in Japan) and am VERY happy with how it soaks up bumps right out of the box. It is a night and day difference to the rough country lift I had before, which I believe is a combination of the flex, shackle angles and shocks using Downey's advice I linked above. Also I took them apart and made sure the leaves were not stuck together with paint or anything before installing them which I think helped avoid a lot of "break in time."
Hi Ryan - Found this post in my research and would love an update. My '74 FJ40 is getting fixed up after 25 years. I'm looking for the best 2 inch lift setup for my cruiser, which always has the top off and 95% city driving. Very light load. Wanted to see if you were still happy with your skyjacker and KYB shocks in the back.

Thanks for bumping this thread @Taylor2708 I hadn't seen it in my perusing and I am interested in the spring detune @wngrog discussed.

I already have OME Daker on my project. When I purchased asked for the light version because I plan to keep it light but I think the vender just gave me what they had. 9 leaves in the front and 7 in the back! I would like to start with a softer ride so guess I should remove at least the third leaf from the top and then add back as things settle?

I know I should start a new thread but any detuning advice from those with experience would be appreciated.

Wow what a quick response!

I'm going to remove the two leaves per pack and probably install the 4° shims as you have. This works out well because I don't like how the overload spring on the back sticks out, looks funny and like it will get snagged or rammed into something. Also thought I needed longer leaf pins for another issue but by doing this I can just use what I have.

Guessing Cruiser Outfitters for the shims.

Thank you Mr. Nolan for what you do and leaving a record for the rest of us to emulate.

Hello everyone, just trying to wake up this thread. Are cruiser outfitters the only ones that can get a full Dobinson setup with all parts shocks shackles leaf springs for a 1981 fj43?

Any more input on this setup is appreciated. I need something. I don't know what I have currently but after 10 minutes of driving my neck and back is killing me. It's like I'm driving a forklift with steel tires. I'm only at 28 PSI on my tires 33s so I know it's not that.

Thanks for your assistance. Just looking for updated contact information on who I need to speak with to go this route. I'm looking for the softest most comfortable on-road driving with light off-road in the sand but nothing crazy or rock climbing.

Give me a call at the shop (Ozark overland outfitters) I’m safe to say I have more experience with those Dobinsons kits than anyone in USA and can get you sorted right the first time 4178550647
