That's sort of an open ended question. It depends what you want to do with your 40. Aesthetics, performance, mud terrain, all terrain, bias ply, radial, tall & skinny or do you like a wider tire? Lifted or not? Street machine or wheeler. We do need to see what we're working with.

There's endless posts on the subject.

I like those low profile rubber band looking tires on a 40!

I’ve worked for one of the worlds largest tire manufacturers (are on the corporate side, but they did make me learn to retread tires in the retread facility, and work retail for a few days). Tires take some serious engineering.

But not for an FJ40.

Having said that, I’m still a KO/ KO2 (haven’t shelled out for KO3’s) fan boy. Mud terrains look good, but I do 90% of my driving on the road, unfortunately.

I’ve run 235/85R16s and 33x10.5s. I like the wider tire visually, but it’s a lot easier to steer the skinnies.

Here’s a photo with the larger wheels on the rear for comparison. This is on a 2.5” spring lift/ stock shackles.

Looks like the North Fork of the Flathead. Great picture.

Actually a few hours to the south, way back in the hills.

There's some cool stories about the Lewis and Clark expedition around that particular creek one winter.

Unlikely. They are made in the US and their price rise pre-dates the tarries.

I love my BFGs and I'll always run them no matter the price.
BFG All Terrains are nice and traditionally good looking but have gone through the roof (tarries?)
