looks a little better with the cage in. Next will be the rear heater and tank cover but that's another day.

Started working on my slip and twist traction bar. I have ended up spending quite a bit more money than I planned to on this. I have extra material left over. So if anyone else is interested in doing this style of traction bar let me know as I have enough to make one more.

I drilled a couple holes in the outer tube. Then I welded some threaded inserts for the grease zerks.

I clamped on a piece of straight Steel to see where to weld on y my tabs on to the skid plate.

I got the bottom tube tacked on as well. We'll have to save the rest for another day. I also started to mock-up the doors. The tub comes with new body mount pads but they are pretty thick and I was concerned how the thinner front clip pads would work with the thicker pads. But when I mounted up my first door the gaps all look good straight away. So we'll see looks like I may keep the thick pads.

Got everything mocked up for the traction bar. So I took it off and put some permanent welds on.

I also got the fuel tank cover on and rear heater bolted down. I used some 1/4" rubber gasket for the rocker side.

The rear rollbar pieces got put on, as well as I started installing the soft top. I've never seen a aqualu with a best top on it, so we'll see how it goes.

Made some more progress this evening. I have never seen a aqualu combined with a best top. So I did my best to make it work. Aqualu made some b pillar caps for me. I had to make the opening though for the poles. I also had to modify the poles as the aqualu b pillar is different.

Finally upgraded my seating from the 5 gallon bucket to a pair of car seats. Cruiser is streetable now. I also installed a new steering wheel. I just get cheap eBay ones. The last one I ripped apart. I was sitting on the bucket rolling the truck out of the shop when I realized I was about to back into the forklift. I slammed on the brakes and held onto the steering wheel to keep me from falling backwards. I survived fine, but the steering wheel was all bent up haha

Nice rig man, looks good. Just noticed your using the roll bar for a air tank? Cool.

Yes, nice rig!! And scenery! Where are you located? Colorado?

Started th o install my shifter boots. I'm using 1st gen fj60 boots. They are high quality and I've had them for a while. The inner boots have been torn for a while. I discovered by accident that plastidip sticks to rubber very well. Here is my boot repair using plastidip. Since these are inner boots looks isn't a priority. First the trans boot was torn in a circle near the top. Here is after I applied one coat of Plasti Dip. I use small cheap alligator clips to hold the two pieces together while the plasti dip dries.

And here is a trans boot all done with about four Coatings of Plasti Dip.

The transfer case inner boots was much worse off. It took a lot of messing with and about a whole day of spraying it letting it dry for a bit spraying a different portion letting it dry and so forth. Here is how it started
20170712_183742-756x1008.jpg

First step I cleaned off all the gunk from the boot

Here I'm starting to fix the seems a bit at a time. I did this while at work so I would just come back to it now and then and spray some more Plasti Dip.

And here it is all done. Seems like it should hold up for a while hopefully. Definitely better than it was. These Boots Are discontinued so it was either this or just run without inner boots. I suppose I could have looked for some used ones.

Got my shifter boots in. Not sure if I'll change the leather on my seat from the light gray to a dark gray or just black. Any opinions?

Been working on getting the front clip lined up. I'm struggling I think because my driver cowl body mount is tweaked from I rock I got a while ago. I'm going to get the torch out and see if I can straighten it better. The more I work on this the happier I am with the aqualu. A guy at work pessimistically said, "now u gotta deal with dissimilar metal corrosion." That's way easier to deal with in my opinion that the 40 year old rust prone steel. I'm also amazed at how well the hard doors fit with the soft top. They seal pretty well and now I can lock it to give the curious a hint to stay out.

Your last picture is just awesome if I can say so without dating myself/revealing my age.

I think a darker gray to match the door panels would be nice. . . but then again remember this is coming from the guy with the two tone transmission cover :).
