Thanks to @POTATO LAUNCHER's stepping up to the plate for some heavy lifting, one of the batons will be in southern Colorado in about a week and a half. I'll be picking up a baton from him on Friday, June 2 in Romeroville, NM, then travel with him to a point north of Santa Fe on his way up to Monte Vista, CO. I plan on meeting up with @Reznugget in western New Mexico in early to mid-June. From there he offered to carry a baton towards Winslow, AZ or the Four Corners area. The red toolbox is already on its path towards southern AZ from west Texas. There have been a few MUD members along the Front Range express an interest in participating: @PWCO70crusier, @nuclearlemon, @Jpilot, and @Rat Rod Rusty. @POTATO LAUNCHER has offered to drive through Walsenburg, CO (on I-25 south of Pueblo) on his way back to Amarillo, and could drop off a baton for a leg up the Front Range. @cruiseroutfit is willing to cover some Utah territory, and @greenbeast (Steamboat Springs) is willing to cover some of northern Colorado. It's about 300 miles from Denver through Steamboat Springs to the Utah border following US 40. So it looks like a Front Range to Wasatch Range leg might be feasible.

That leaves the route for the remaining baton open: 1) through northern AZ (and maybe Las Vegas, NV) via @Reznugget, @Living in the Past, and/or others (@kblomquist is in Kanab, UT, 240 miles from @Reznugget in Chinle and 200 miles from Las Vegas); or 2) the Four Corners, Moab, and points north in Utah via @Reznugget and ??? If Moab is along the route, the surrogate baton (beige briefcase) should go there.

It would be good to know by next Friday (June 2nd) which baton should go where. Can we get together and pull this off?

Alright folks, I now have the briefcase and tan baton in the Texas Panhandle. A big thanks to @Fireman for meeting me today in Chillicothe, TX.
I followed Hwy287 North back to Estilene, TX. where Hwy 86 heads West towards the edge of the Caprock. Two lane winding highway is much more enjoyable in a 40. First town along the route is Turkey, TX. Hometown of Bob Wills. He was a big star in the golden age of country and western music.
Next stop was Quiteque, TX. This is where Caprock Canyons State Park is located. It is the home of the Texas State Bison Herd. Located just below and on the edge of the caprock in this region. Cool place to visit, camp and hike. From there It was a few miles to Hwy 207 North towards Claude, TX.
This is on the top of the caprock all but two sections. One small( relatively speaking) area that has been turned into a reservoir known as Lake Mackenzie and the second part that is part a much larger part of the PaloDuro Canyon area.
The remainder of the drive is the usual flat farmland associated with this area.
Friday June 2nd brings the second part of my journey. I will follow as much of Route 66 that is still open including the original 1936 route to where I meet @4Cruisers in Romeroville.
Covered 363 uneventful miles, had lunch with a another great member of the Mud community and added a few thousand bugs to the front of my 73 FJ40.

Very cool pics. My grandfather was one of the guitar players in Bob Wills' Texas Playboys. Loved seeing that! Sure wish my 40 was up and running. This looks like fun.

i'm still in for a short stint in denver metro area. unfortunately, annie is a 1962, so 45 mph is the max which means all side roads, but i can move the treasure for 50 - 70 miles or so... maybe meet someone on south of denver somewhere and travel it alongside the i-25 corridor to north side of denver area.

has anyone in southern wyoming area (cheyenne/laramie) expressed interest? or will it need to go out the i70 corridor. i-80 would get it closer to steamboat

@TacoJonn is in Cheyenne, and @Rat Rod Rusty (Boulder) indicated he would be willing to get up into Wyoming. It looks like it's quite a ways from Cheyenne to Steamboat Springs (~173 miles, a few miles further than it is from Denver). It's still a possibility though.

do you drive on the highway with your top rolled up like that? I am curious about doing that with mine but didn't know how well it would work

It just dawned on me that the post for todays relay should be in the Travelauge thread. Can a moderator move it or do I need to repost?

I'm happy to participate where I can, hoping I'll be home around the 11th to possibly shuttle: not 100% I'll have the 40 by then as it is in Pagosa, but I'm 100% in if it is! Fingers crossed!

@graham5david and I am trying to blend life for the next Southern leg. If any of the 40 owners in our little area of the world is interested in joining our trek please let us know so we can include you. Baton is to be transferred from Odessa, Tx and Pinos Altos, N.M.
