Bought a used 80 series wheel from a guy here in PHX that was doing the same thing. Hope his turns out as nice. Sweet ride!

man that's nice, talk about best of both....

(got me thinking, I know of a scrap 40 and a scrap 60 in Zambia - the 60 engine & drivetrain are rough but fine (body cut in half by a truck where the pillars join the side panels) - the 40 is junk, but I'm sure I can save enough panels.. won't be till next autumn when I'm over there though

Hi there guys, thought i would share this Vehicle with you. I met a guy from Naples FL ( Jerome Smythe) who moved here from Africa and brought his lovely FJ40/80. Its an FJ40 body sitting on a shortened 80 series chassis powered by a 6 cyl 1HD-T turbo Diesel Engine..what a beauty. Jerome built this vehicle himself...Enjoy!!!

Actually here they are..last set of pics.

Do you know if the frame needed to be shortened between the front and rear axles, or just bobbed? Any pictures of the build up?

thought shortened ..

it would really be beautiful without those surfboard fenders...i hate those things.

X2 .. and factory color like white or mustard.

with this engine that bith sure can fly .. !

Just saw this thread. I was talking with Mud eater over some beers one night and we we're bouncing business ideas around for fun.

Mine was to open a kit car company. See you would supply the frame, body and interior for a hybrid 40 and the builder would supply the rest from a donor 80 series.

So you buy my kit for say 15K, add an 80 series that rolled for another 2k, some elbow grease and a few cases of #6 and you got yourself one of these.

If I had a clue on how to write up a business plan I might make a go at it.

Thats cool

I have often thought that when I get some garage space in a couple of years that I would like to put a 40 body on an 80 frame like Gary, except not a wagon with a streched engine compartment to fit the 1FZ.

Now I have something to do with that spare FZJ80 sitting in my garage. Maybe just buy some aluminium body parts and I'd have the frame and suspension of an 80 series, a 4bt Cummins and auto for the motor and an FJ45 body.

I see that he used a stock instrument cluster from a 40. I wonder how that wired up to the 80 series harness... :hhmm: I'd love to ask him.

I don´t know how Jerome managed

we changed the gearbox speedo-out put to cable and the powerstearing to third world standard without speedmodulation. The instruments and controlllamps will work with the 80ty input.

still under construction ...

We use the stock amperemeter, watertemp, and 2x fuelgauge. Pyrometer, boost, rpm, oilpressure, etc is VDO
